Cooper Pratt

21-Year-Old ShortstopSS
Milwaukee Brewers
2026 Fantasy Outlook
There's a case for buying low on the 21-year-old Pratt in dynasty leagues this offseason, as his surface stats at Double-A undersell his long-term potential. He slashed .238/.343/.348 with eight home runs, 31 steals, a 12.7 percent walk rate and a 15.2 percent strikeout rate in 120 games at Double-A. He was unlucky (.267 BABIP) and was the sixth-youngest qualified hitter at Double-A, so his batting average and power output will naturally trend up in the coming years. How much more power is coming is to be determined, but at 6-foot-3 and equipped with a strong hit tool, there are reasons to expect him to unlock 15-20 homer power in time. Org. mate Brice Turang's evolution at the plate is a reminder of the potential for players of this ilk to maximize their power output in their mid-20s. We know Pratt likes to run and makes plenty of contact, and he happens to be the best defensive shortstop of Milwaukee's handful of shortstop prospects. It's not a given that Pratt beats Jesus Made to the majors, but Pratt should be considered the more likely of the two to stick at the six. Read Past Outlooks

Not in Sunday's lineup
SSMilwaukee Brewers
July 5, 2026
Pratt is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Analysis
Pratt will sit Sunday after starting the previous four games, and he went 2-for-12 with three walks, a steal and a run during that span. The 21-year-old has struggled to a .200/.317/.220 slash line with one double, six steals, two RBI and five runs in his first 17 big-league games. Joey Ortiz is taking over at shortstop for the series finale in Arizona.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Prospect development is rarely linear, but Pratt's been on an upward trajectory since getting an over-slot $1.35 million bonus in the sixth round of the 2023 draft. Pratt is a 6-foot-4 shortstop, and he's a good enough defender that there isn't much talk of him having to move to third base anytime soon. He hit .295 with a 12.2 percent walk rate and an 18.3 percent strikeout rate while at Single-A and earned a late-season promotion to High-A. His power (five homers in 23 games) and strikeouts (25.3 K%) spiked after the promotion and poor luck (.237 BABIP) contributed to a .221 average. Given Pratt's lean, projectable frame and late-season power spike, he could break out as a power hitter this year or next. Pratt stole 27 bases on 30 attempts last year, illustrating his good instincts, as he's just an average runner. He turns 21 in August, and could be at Double-A by then.
After not getting selected on the first day of the 2023 MLB Draft, it seemed that Pratt would make it to campus at Mississippi, but the Brewers were able to persuade him to turn pro with an over-slot $1.35 million bonus after selecting him in the sixth round. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound shortstop had one of the better hit tools in the class and projects to grow into more power as he fills out. Pratt combines excellent bat-to-ball ability with a strong eye at the plate, projecting to be an above-average or plus hitter. His right-handed swing is smooth and quick, and given his frame, he could develop above-average or better power down the road. Despite his size, there's a decent chance he will stick at shortstop, at least early in his big-league career. Pratt will make his full-season debut this year after hitting .356 with four steals and a 20.4 K% in 12 games in the Arizona Complex League last summer.

Extension agreed upon?
SSMilwaukee Brewers
April 1, 2026
Pratt is on the cusp of signing a contract extension with the Brewers, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Analysis
Milwaukee is close to signing Pratt to an eight-year contract extension worth more than $50 million. The deal is also expected to have two option years, meaning the Brewers would essentially lock the talented prospect for the next 10 years. Pratt is currently playing at Triple-A, but he could get a look in the majors at some point in the 2026 season.
