Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
One positive the Orioles could take away from their disastrous 2025 season was the ability to give a talented youngster like Mayo some leash at the major-league level. Mayo was essentially an everyday player over the final two months of the season, and after slashing an ugly .136/.208/.261 with a 37.5 percent strikeout rate in August, the 24-year-old rebounded with a .301/.393/.548 batting line and five home runs in September. The former top prospect should enter the 2026 campaign as an everyday player for Baltimore, likely between first base and designated hitter. Mayo's hard-hit rate in the majors (34.5 percent) barely exceeds his strikeout rate (31.2 percent), which is scary, but his minor-league track record points to the right-handed hitter eventually becoming a slugger in the big leagues. This could be your last chance to buy low on Mayo. Read Past Outlooks
Serving as DH on Wednesday
Mayo (back) is serving as the Orioles' designated hitter and batting fifth against the Rays on Wednesday, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Analysis
Mayo was out of the Orioles' lineup in each of the team's last four games due to back soreness. He'll be eased back into action as the DH in Wednesday's game, but he could return to fielding duties for Baltimore's series opener against Toronto on Thursday. Mayo has gone 11-for-52 (.212) with two home runs, six RBI and a 4:19 BB:K since May 1.

2022
Mayo has logged two seasons of excellence at Triple-A before turning 23 this December, but he failed in his first cup of coffee with the big club. A scouting and developmental success story that the organization takes a lot of pride in, Mayo has been on a steady incline as a dynasty asset since he received a seven-figure bonus after going in the fourth round of the 2020 draft. He is a passable defender at third base and moves well for his 6-foot-5 frame, but long-term in Baltimore, Mayo makes the most sense at first base. He slashed .293/.372/.592 with 25 home runs, four steals and excellent hard-hit data (33.7 Hard%, 13.3 Soft%) in 93 minor-league games but .098 with 22 strikeouts, four walks and zero extra-base hits in 46 MLB plate appearances. After logging a 71.5 percent contact rate in the minors, he made contact at just a 56.7 percent clip in the majors. It was a humbling debut for the hulking corner infielder, but his youth and track record scream "buy low" in dynasty and redraft.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Path to 'lots of playing time'
Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias said there's still "lots of playing time available" for Mayo following the signing of Pete Alonso, reports Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com.
Analysis
Mayo appeared lined up for an everyday role at first base in 2026, but the big Alonso splash in free agency puts the former on track for more of a part-time role. The 24-year-old could see more action at third base, designated hitter or get tested out at other positions, but there doesn't appear to be an obvious path to regular playing time if Baltimore's lineup stays fairly healthy. The organization could look to trade Mayo this winter to shore up the roster elsewhere.
