Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Three years after the Dodgers selected him in the third round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, Freeland got his first taste of big-league action last season. He saw a fair amount of playing time in August but struggled against big-league pitching, posting a .602 OPS with two home runs, six RBI, one stolen base and a 36.1 percent strikeout rate over 97 plate appearances. He was much better at Triple-A, slashing .263/.384/.451 with 16 homers, 82 RBI and 18 steals in 106 games, and that sort of well-rounded skill set is what Los Angeles hopes Freeland can bring to the big-league squad down the line. When he might get a full-time opportunity remains to be seen; though Freeland can play multiple infield positions, the Dodgers are pretty set across the diamond aside, potentially, from second base. If Freeland opens the campaign on the big-league roster it will likely be in a reserve role, so it may take an injury or two for him to get enough playing time to be worth a look in redraft fantasy leagues. Analysis
Freeland has gone 5-for-14 with a homer, two RBI and three runs scored since the beginning of May, but the Dodgers will keep him on the bench to begin Friday's series opener. Santiago Espinal will get the nod at second base and bat ninth.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Freeland doesn't have a plus tool, but he is average to above-average at everything that matters, both in real life and in fantasy. A fine shortstop who could also handle third base or second base, Freeland has above-average speed and stole 31 bases on 33 attempts in 136 games across High-A, Double-A and Triple-A in 2024. He hit .260 with a 21.6 percent strikeout rate, a 14.8 percent walk rate and 18 home runs during his breakout age-22 season, although his isolated power ticked down notably after each promotion. His 31.5 percent hard-hit rate was a very strong mark for a middle infielder his age, and Freeland banged 32 doubles on the campaign. The fact that he will provide quality defense at positions of need while working the count and hitting for a bit of power should allow him to be an everyday player at some point, although it will be tough for him to break through with the Dodgers early in 2025. Whenever he does settle in as a regular, Freeland could produce similarly to Dansby Swanson in fantasy.
