2026 Fantasy Outlook
Houser had a tale of two seasons in 2025 between the White Sox and Rays. He was one of the bright spots in the White Sox rotation, making 11 starts while winning six of them pitching to a 2.10 ERA and 1.22 WHIP despite a 9.1 K-BB percentage. The White Sox smartly sold high to Tampa Bay for Curtis Mead, and while Houser's K-BB percentage improved to 11.9, regression caught up with him as his ERA ballooned to 4.79 and his WHIP to 1.35 in 10 starts with Tampa Bay. Nine of his 11 starts with Chicago were quality starts, while just two of his 10 with Tampa Bay qualified as such. The Rays were making some adjustments to Houser after the deal and helped him tap into some more velocity, but none of that should elevate Houser out of mixed league streamer or endgame AL-Only status. He is still a pitcher with a risky career 9.4 K-BB percentage with a 4.06 ERA and 1.36 WHIP who is a prototypical fifth starter on a second division major league club. Draft accordingly. Logs quality start in loss
Houser (0-4) took the loss Wednesday against San Diego, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out three.
Analysis
While Houser remains winless on the season, Wednesday's outing was easily his best so far this year, as he turned in his first quality start and held the Padres to a lone earned run on a Gavin Sheets fourth-inning homer. In six starts prior to Wednesday, Houser hadn't allowed fewer than three runs while making it through six innings just once. His ERA now sits at 6.19 with a 1.54 WHIP and 19:11 K:BB across 36.1 innings. Houser is currently in line to face the Dodgers on the road his next time out.

Houser's time in Milwaukee has come to an end as the club traded him to the Mets in December. The right-hander reached his apex in the Brewers organization in 2021 when he went 10-6 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 142.1 innings. He has been unable to replicate the results or the workload in the years since, though 2023 was mostly a positive season around stints on the injured list due to groin and elbow issues. Houser took the ball 23 times (21 starts) and cut his walk rate down to the lowest mark of his career. He might be a good fit in spacious Citi Field given his heavy sinker-slider approach. The modest strikeout rate leaves him on the fringes in most fantasy leagues, but Houser should be in the Opening Day rotation for the Mets in 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely to be dealt
Houser is likely to be traded by the White Sox ahead of the July 31 deadline, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Analysis
The veteran right-hander had a 5.03 ERA in nine outings at Triple-A with Texas before hitting free agency in mid-May, so his 1.89 ERA in 10 starts since signing with Chicago has been a major surprise. Some regression is likely on the horizon given his 6.4 K/9 and 3.01 FIP, but Houser should still be an easy asset to move at the deadline given his cheap expiring contract.
