Closer Watch
Cardinals -- With Trevor Rosenthal (arm tightness) unavailable Monday, Kevin Siegrist pitched a perfect ninth inning for his second save of the season. It sounds like Rosenthal is okay, but Siegrist may be in position to poach a couple more short-term saves.
Mets -- Jeurys Familia, who was pitching for the fourth time in five days (and more than one inning for the second consecutive day), gave up a game-tying homer to Jose Bautista in the top of the ninth Monday, but it was kind of a cheapo into the corner. Familia labored through that inning, putting a couple men on base after the homer, and will probably get a day or two of rest after this recent stretch. That could mean a save chance for someone else – perhaps Bobby Parnell or Hansel Robles – over the next couple days.
Blue Jays -- Brett Cecil blew his own save in turn Monday, giving up two runs in the 11th inning. He got just two outs and watched from the dugout as Liam Hendriks gave up the game-winning hit to Wilmer Flores on the first pitch. Cecil's now allowed runs in three of his last four outings. He's not going to lose his job right now, but it seems like Roberto Osuna is destined to become the Jays' closer eventually.
Royals -- Greg Holland got the call for some extra work with the Royals leading 8-2 in the ninth inning Monday, and he wasn't able to record an out, giving up four hits, a walk and three runs before Wade Davis came in to bail him out and earn the save. Holland had only allowed a single baserunner over his prior five outings, but hadn't pitched since June 9 thanks to a recent lack of save situations.

Rougned Odor, 2B, TEX – Fantasy owners who gambled on the 21-year-old's upside had to deal with a highly unpleasant Odor earlier this year, as he hit .144 in 29 games before being demoted to Triple-A Round Rock. You like to see talented young players answer the challenge by outperforming in the minors, and that's exactly what Odor's done – in 30 games since being sent down, he's hit .352/.426/.639, homering five times to go with three steals and more walks (12) than strikeouts (10). He returned with a 3-for-3 evening Monday, offering hope that the sweet-smelling Odor is back and here to stay.
