Closer Watch

Cubs -- On Monday, Hector Rondon was tasked with the eighth inning, with Jason Motte getting the call in the ninth and the Cubs leading by three. Motte gave up a solo homer, but successfully converted his second save of the season. Pedro Strop pitched the seventh, which may give us some idea of the pecking order here, but it seems like this could be a highly variable situation moving forward, as Joe Maddon doesn't seem to want to commit to one closer at this point.

Blue Jays -- We've been waiting all year for Roberto Osuna to get a save, and he got one in grand fashion Monday, striking out five and working around a walk over two innings. Brett Cecil has been struggling, so there's certainly room for Osuna to take this job and run with it if he gets the chance. He's certainly been the best, most electric arm in the Toronto bullpen this year.

Diamondbacks -- Arizona optioned ex-closer Addison Reed on Monday to bring Enrique Burgos off the DL. Before going down with a shoulder injury, Burgos looked like a strong candidate for closing duties, but his time on the sidelines has let Brad Ziegler own the role unchallenged. However, the groundballing Ziegler has only struck out one batter in his last 11 appearances, so he's not exactly showing closer stuff. Burgos has closer stuff in spades. Take notice.

Recommended Pickup
Erasmo Ramirez, SP, TB – The fantasy community was very quick to write Eraser off after he was bombed for 15 runs in his first two starts of the year back in April. But since making his mid-May return to the rotation, Ramirez is 6-1 with a 2.34 ERA and a livable, if not excellent, 35:14 K:BB over 42.1 innings. The groin injury that pulled him out of his most recent start seems to be nothing to worry about, but that red cross next to his name should help you acquire Ramirez's services on the cheap in your FAAB bidding.

Other Recent Recommendations:Marlon Byrd, Brock Holt, Kyle Schwarber, Anibal Sanchez, David Phelps
