Steffen was a major addition to the revamped Colorado Rapids in 2024. While Colorado conceded more goals in 2024 than in 2023 (an increase from 54 to 60), the team increased its point total from 27 to 50. After the loss of top defender Moise Bombito to OGC Nice, the Colorado backline struggled and consistently left Steffen out to dry. With Colorado in the market for a new center-back beside Andreas Maxso, Steffen can return to a similar form that he had with Bombito on the backline.
Out 5-6 months after surgery
Steffen (shoulder) underwent successful shoulder surgery and is expected to miss approximately five to six months, the club announced.

His absence will extend well into the second half of the MLS season, with Nicholas Defreitas Hansen expected to step into the starting role between the posts while Steffen works through his recovery.
