Cabanes' setback traces back to August 26 last year,when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a training session with Villarreal's B team, an injury that required surgery and an initial recovery estimate of seven to eight months and while the initial outlook pointed to a recovery stretching into the following summer, he was back involved well before that, appearing off the bench in Villarreal's final league game of the season against Atlético Madrid on May 24. His start in this preseason friendly extends that positive trend, and with a full preseason still ahead of him, he looks well placed to push for a genuine role in Villarreal's attack this season.
