Rasmussen was transferred from Union SG to St. Pauli, his new club announced. "We were able to convince Mathias, a very well-structured midfielder, to join FC St. Pauli. It is particularly important that he can play in various positions in the center, thus giving us additional options in midfield. Furthermore, he brings footballing maturity and international experience," Sporting director Andreas Bornemann said.

Rasmussen plays as a central midfielder and can operate both as a number eight or a number six, featuring for Union SG in both the Champions League and the Europa League after joining the club in 2023 from Norway, where he previously played for Brann Bergen.
