FPL Bargain Bin: Gameweek 28

FPL Bargain Bin: Gameweek 28

This article is part of our FPL Bargain Bin series.

It's a quick turnaround for Gameweek 28 with games kicking off Tuesday evening (afternoon for those of us in the States), so be sure to have your lineups ready. The interesting part about Gameweek 28 is that it does not end Wednesday.

Thanks to the League Cup, Queens Park Rangers will host Tottenham on Saturday to make up for the missed match last weekend. This means both clubs will play twice in one gameweek and give us our first double gameweek of the year. Values go up because players will have twice as many chances to score, and just being out on the pitch is enough to equal nearly a goal. If you want to see how the double gameweek affects a player's value in relation to everyone else, be sure to check out this week's rankings. If you're looking for bargain players to pick up because you wanted to buy Harry Kane back a week after selling him, here are some players that you could pick to get good value at little cost.

Goalkeeper

Allan McGregor
Only three teams have scored fewer away goals than Sunderland's 10 this season. Six of their 14 road trips have seen them return without a goal scored. Now would be the time to use your Hull City defenders and goalkeeper. In fact, the Tigers have looked impressive defensively but just have not managed to keep a clean sheet for the full 90 minutes. This week will provide them as good a chance as they have seen to keep their opponents out of the net for the entire match and give good value to McGregor.

Defender

Alberto Moreno
There is not a team hotter in the Premier League (league play) right now than Liverpool. They have excelled and much of the credit should be given to a backline that has held teams to an average of just 0.7 goals per match on their current 11-match unbeaten streak. This includes keeping six clean sheets, more than half those matches. A home game against Burnley should just add to the fine run Liverpool has been on. The Clarets have scored just four goals in their last five matches and are really struggling of late. Moreno has been important to the performance of the Liverpool defense and should once again be in the lineup for what is a good chance to pick up clean sheet points.

Midfielder

Niko Kranjcar
Queens Park Rangers are a totally different team at home than they are on the road. We have discussed their struggles away from Loftus Road, however, when they are home, they are comparable to your average Premier League team. This includes boasting a positive goal differential among their tally of home matches. Needless to say, they are able to score at home and in Gameweek 28 they will get two matches there. The current depth of the QPR midfield is thin and should increase the chances of Kranjcar playing in both matches. When he's on the pitch, he is not afraid to get involved: only Charlie Austin has a higher shots-per-minute average among QPR's players that have played more than 500 minutes, and Kranjcar will get two opportunities to get a goal this game week.

Forward

Saido Berahino
You make look at the fixture and say you want no part of a West Brom team on the road, but you're not looking at the full picture. Any match against Aston Villa has been promising this season. Villa is on a current seven-match losing streak (league play) that has seen them allow 15 goals during that time. That's over two goals per match! West Brom is likely to score and no one on West Brom is scoring outside of Berahino. The only concern is his health, but with injury concerns to all the West Brom strikers, it is likely he will see some sort of action (though I expect him to see extended action). The nice part about Berahino is when the matchup will be played. Aston Villa v. West Brom kicks off with the first set of matches on Tuesday and gives you the opportunity to adjust accordingly should he be held out. If that is the case, feel free to go with the starting striker. Either Berahino or Brown Ideye will be an excellent option for your FPL team this week.
