2026 Fantasy Outlook
Longtime supporters and fans of Busch are now getting concerned. You could even likely say they are pressing the panic button. The now 40-year-old star hasn't won in the past two seasons and he's posted just 10 Top-10 finishes in each of the last two campaigns. It's led to 20th- and 21st-place finishes in the driver standings the last two years. What started out so positively for Busch at Richard Childress Racing in 2023 (three victories, 17 Top 10's) has now gone stale. Qualifying has been a big problem, and Busch's pace is nonexistent. He led a career-low of just 88 laps last season. Jim Pohlman has been brought in to fill the crew chief role in a Hail Mary move of sorts. However, we have to wonder if this mediocrity continues, if he'll move on from Richard Childress Racing after 2026 or just retire from NASCAR altogether. Read Past Outlooks
Suffers Multiple Flat Tires
Busch finished 17th in Sunday's Straight Talk Wireless 500 at Phoenix Raceway despite hitting the wall two separate times after suffering flat tires.
ANALYSIS
It was an eventful race for Busch, who made contact with the outside wall twice due to flat tires. Luckily for Busch, both incidents happened almost simultaneously with Shave Van Gisbergen spins, and the caution saved him both times. Busch's crew was able to fix the car without losing laps, which helped Busch rebound to a 17th-place finish after starting back in 29th. Still in search of his first Top 10 of the season, Busch heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway next week, a track where he's finished in the Top 10 in 55.2 percent of his career starts.

The first season with Richard Childress Racing and the No. 8 Chevrolet team was a success. Busch didn't advance as far into the playoffs as he would have liked, but he still racked up three victories (a four-season high) and 17 Top-10 finishes. It all added up to a 14th-place finish in the points, but the performance was markedly improved over his last season with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2022. The big question surrounding this driver and team for 2024, is how much can they improve? Busch and crew chief, Randall Burdett, had some pretty good accomplishments together last year, but they lacked week-to-week consistency. That is the missing ingredient for more Top 10's and a deeper drive into the playoffs. Busch is still capable of 3-to-5 wins and north of 20 Top-10 finishes as a driver. The ability to make that happen is largely going to fall on Burdett and the rest of the No. 8 team.
