Won't get another UFC contract
FlyweightOther
July 30, 2024
Mokaev won't be given another UFC contract and has been removed from the flyweight rankings, John Morgan of The Underground reports.
ANALYSIS
UFC President Dana White indicated strongly in his UFC 304 post-fight press conference that this would be the case, stating that the matchmakers have had difficulties working with Mokaev and essentially saying that he'll be headed to the PFL. There's definitely something happening behind the scenes, as Mokaev is an undefeated and ranked fighter, though he does employ a wrestling-heavy attack that isn't the most fan-friendly (his win Saturday only saw him accumulate 30 significant strikes in 15 minutes). He also played a role in instigating a pre-UFC 304 hotel brawl during this week's event, which he has since apologized for, but it could very well be too little, too late.

Takes snoozer at UFC 304
FlyweightOther
July 27, 2024
Mokaev defeated Manel Kape via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) at UFC 304 on Saturday in Manchester, England.
ANALYSIS
It's the rare fight in which both competitors saw their stock decrease. Known as a one-dimensional grappler with questionable striking skills, Mokaev displayed improved stand-up abilities. That's the good news. The bad news is that he got next to nothing going from a wrestling standpoint, landing just two takedowns and doing nothing with his positional advantage. Still, all that matters is that you get your hand raised, and Mokaev did just that. That said, no one is going to be clamoring for Muhammad to get a title shot after this effort. He probably needs at least one more big win to enter the championship conversation.
Taking on Kape in July

May 9, 2024
Mokaev will face Manel Kape in a flyweight bout at UFC 304 in Manchester, England on July 27, per Jed Meshew of MMAFighting.com.
ANALYSIS
Mokaev will hope to continue his winning ways at UFC 304, looking to remain unbeaten in his professional career. The five-foot-seven Dagestani owns a 6-0 record in UFC, including his most recent decision victory over Alex Perez in March.
Undefeated record remains
FlyweightOther
March 2, 2024
Mokaev defeated Alex Perez via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was another middling performance from Mokaev, albeit another victory. Muhammad continues to be a massive favorite each and every time he steps into the Octagon, and while he performs fairly well, he's far from dominating. He landed just 3-of-20 takedowns against Perez and won the total strike battle by a 56-47 count. On one hand, the constant threat of the takedown is providing opportunities for Mokaev offensively, but on the other, he really isn't taking advantage of it. He won't be 24 years of age until the end of July, so there's room for improvement going forward, but Mokaev doesn't feel like a top guy at 125 pounds at the moment.
Alex Perez up next
FlyweightOther
December 6, 2023
Mokaev will compete against Alex Perez in a flyweight fight at UFC Saudi Arabia on March 2, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Mokaev will look to continue his unbeaten run by defeating No. 7 flyweight Perez. Ideally for the former, he can be that one opponent Perez does not have to withdraw from fighting against, as it has unfortunately been nine times since May of 2021.
Taps out Tim Elliott late
FlyweightOther
October 21, 2023
Mokaev defeated Tim Elliott via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 3:03 of Round 3 at UFC 294 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Mokaev started slowly, spending far too much of the opening frame on his back, but he picked up the pace the rest of the way and appeared to be cruising to a decision win. Little did we know at the time that two of the three judges had Elliott up 20-18 heading into Round 3. In other words, Mokaev was going to lose a decision if the submission didn't materialize. That submission would also go on to win him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Muhammad's secondary skills need work, but he's a high-end wrestler, very strong for the division and won't turn 24 years of age until next July. There's going to be some bumps in the road along the way, but Mokaev's ceiling is about as high as any 125-pounder on the UFC roster.
