Venezuela
Submission win in UFC debut
Montes defeated Ricky Turcios via technical submission (anaconda choke) at 0:40 of Round 2 at UFC 326 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The last of the 2024 group of Dana White's Contender Series contract winners to officially make his company debut, Montes looked great. He battered Turcios on the feet, landing plenty of power shots and easily handling the pressure applied by his opponent. Known far more for his ground game than striking exploits, Montes expertly snatched up the neck of Turcios following a lazy takedown attempt and the fight was over then and there. The 31-year-old Venezuelan should look to get back in the octagon as soon as possible considering he absorbed zero damage this evening.

Scores contract with anaconda choke
Montes defeated Carlos Calderon via submission (anaconda choke) at 2:38 of Round 2 at Dana White's Contender Series. After the show, he was one of five fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
Montes wasn't particularly convincing in a narrow Round 1, as the (-275) betting favorite was taken down twice and came up short by a 19-to-12 margin the significant striking count. He was able to find the choke he attempted in first frame in Round 2, however, forcing the tap and earning a contract. The 30-year-old is the second fighter on the evening who previously hailed under Combate Global to win a contract.
