Yamamoto appeared in just 12 games with Utah last season, accounting for two goals, one assist and a minus-1 rating while averaging 12:07 of ice time. The right-shot winger fared much better in the minors in 2024-25, generating 20 markers and 56 points over 54 regular-season appearances with AHL Tucson. That production likely helped Yamamoto re-up with the Mammoth, as he’s back with the club on a one-year, two-way deal. The 2017 first-round selection will have to earn an NHL roster spot for the 2025-26 campaign, and unless he can work his way into a prominent role in the lineup, Yamamoto probably won’t be helpful to fantasy managers. Overall, the 27-year-old Yamamoto is up to seven goals, seven assists, 29 shots on net and 18 hits across 32 games this season. The three-point effort was the third of his nine-year NHL career and the second multi-point game across his last four appearances. While Yamamoto has been a healthy scratch for periods of time this season, performances such as Thursday's could make him a regular contributor in Utah's bottom six, which would boost his ceiling in fantasy.

The near point-per-game pace Yamamoto showed in 2019-20 is a distant memory. The Oilers decided to cut their losses by trading him to the Red Wings in late-June, and Detroit proceeded to buy him out. The Wings' loss is the Kraken's gain, as Yamamoto signed a one-year deal with the team in hopes of rebuilding his value this year. Going from Edmonton to Seattle is a big change. The former is a top-heavy offense, and one where Yamamoto barely held onto a top-six role, while the latter is built on more of a full-team approach that takes the pressure off of any one player or line. The best-case scenario likely still has Yamamoto around 40 points in 2023-24, but there's also the risk of him getting stuck in a fourth-line role. His tenacity should help him stick in the lineup, but Yamamoto probably doesn't need to be selected on fantasy draft day.
