Dowling has carved out a lengthy career in the minors, but his persistence had led to him occasionally enjoying stints in the NHL. His 52 games played with New Jersey in the 2024-25 regular season was a new career high. He was primarily a fourth-line option with the Devils during that span, recording two goals, seven points, 34 shots, six PIM, 51 hits and 22 blocks. He’ll attempt to replicate that workload with the Rangers after inking a two-year deal over the summer, but there’s no guarantee he’ll succeed. Dowling drew into 29 games with the Stars last season, managing six points and a minus-3 rating. The 30-year-old forward is far from an established NHL player, as he's typically been used as nothing more than an injury replacement. With prospect Jason Robertson approaching NHL readiness, Dowling will likely only have a part-time role in 2020-21, so it's unlikely he'll top 10 points.
