Pachal saw steady playing time with the Flames in 2024-25, earning 12 points, 66 shots on goal, 159 hits, 83 blocked shots and 88 PIM over 76 contests. He was defensively reliable in a bottom-four role for a team that was better than expected. Pachal is under contract for this year and next, so he has a little bit of job security on a blue line that could experience a lot of turnover. Zayne Parekh (upper body) is set to rejoin the Flames on Saturday after a conditioning stint, so Pachal's path to playing time will get even more difficult in the near future.

Before the Flames plucked Pachal off waivers last season, he had seen action in just 29 NHL games over parts of three seasons for the Golden Knights. The 24-year-old blueliner logged 33 contests for Calgary last year, recording one goal, five assists and 81 hits. The undrafted defenseman should be a regular in the lineup this season and does offer some offensive intrigue. Still, Pachal's primary fantasy value will come from his physicality and willingness to put his body on the line. Across a full 82-game season, Pachal could challenge for the 200-hit and 100-block marks.
