McNeil recorded career highs in both earnings and top-25s in 2014. The amazing part was that he accomplished all of that in a trimmed-down schedule. His four top-10s also matched a career-high. The only thing he was missing was a win, something which he'll undoubtedly be shooting for this upcoming season. Whether he gets that win or not will determine if his value is greater than his price this season. As such, he's no better than a 50/50 guy in salary cap leagues this year. In draft leagues he should go in the 5th or 6th round.
McNeill catapulted to the top of the Web.com money list with an early win last season. Consistent play throughout the year kept him near the top. He finished fourth on the final money list.
McNeil gets the dubious distinction of finishing the lowest on the money list of any 2012 winner. In other words, beyond his win, he did very little last season. It's hard to be too tough on McNeil though; after all, he earned more money in 2011 by doing it the hard way - over time. Although McNeil did little outside his win last season, it's not like he missed a lot of cuts. He maked it to the weekend often, he just didn't get much done after Friday. McNeil has some potential to improve upon his earnings from last year, but it will likely be a small increase, if any, which makes him a poor choice in salary cap leagues. In draft leagues, he should be available in the ninth round.
It is almost a given that McNeil will finish somewhere in the $1.5-million range this season. How do we know that? Well, he's finished within $150K of that number in four of his last five seasons. McNeil is a steady player who isn't going to break the bank, but he's pretty reliable on a weekly basis. He finished with a career-high four Top-5 last season, so perhaps there's more in store for McNeil. But considering the evidence, we'll stick with the original prediction of somewhere around $1.5 million. In draft leagues, McNeil should go somewhere in the seventh round.
McNeil looks like a good candidate to break through in 2010. He picked up his first win during his rookie season of 2007 and backed that up with two runner-up finishes in each of the last two seasons. His earnings have stayed relatively similar over his three-year PGA TOUR career, but improvement can be seen in his game.
McNeil went most of the 2008 season without making much of a splash. He played his best golf against weaker fields with the exception of a strong showing at the PODS. McNeil looks to be at least a year off.
George McNeil really came on strong at the end of the 2007 season, which depending on how you look at it, is either good or bad. On the positive side, he's got confidence and momentum heading into the 2008 season. On the bad side, he made earned most of his money from a fall season victory. In cases like this, it's best to wait it out on these players, and not get too excited until they do something during the regular season.
