Gets PGA exemption after NOLA win
Alex and his brother, Matt Fitzpatrick, won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans by one stroke after posting a 31-under cumulative score for the tournament.
ANALYSIS
The two brothers entered New Orleans with plenty of momentum behind them, with Alex having won the Hero Indian Open on the DP World Tour in late March and Matt coming off a playoff victory over Scottie Scheffler at the RBC Heritage last week. The brothers surged to the top of the leaderboard Saturday after tying the course record with a blistering 15-under 57 to enter Sunday with a four-stroke lead. It turns out the Fitzpatrick brothers needed all of their gained strokes Sunday, as they battled adversity during the final round and found themselves in a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard heading into the 72nd hole. It was Matt who set up the victory with a fantastic third shot from the green-side bunker, leaving Alex with an easy, one-foot birdie putt to seal a historic victory, with the duo becoming the first brothers to capture the Zurich Classic. The win was even more meaningful for Alex, as it earned him an exemption to the PGA through the end of the 2028 season. It also means that will be eligible to play in the rest of the Signature Events in 2026, this year's PGA Championship and THE PLAYERS Championship in 2027. Fitzpatrick will take advantage of his new Tour status immediately, as he's listed in the Cadillac Championship next week, though he will not be joined by his brother.
