For those of you who have a golf auction and bid a fixed budget on your golfers, the following is meant to be a guide.
These are the actual dollar values from our RotoWire staff golf league, which took place on Jan. 6. Our rules base winners on total earnings in PGA Tournaments from the Sony Open to the final FedExCup event (we skipped the Hyundai Tournament of Champions due to scheduling conflicts for the draft), excluding those PGA Tour events held the same week as the the World Golf Championship events and the British Open.
Our format also includes bonus points for the four majors. As a result, some European players may have a higher ranking here than your league. If a European golfer plays in just the four majors and world golf tournaments, he'll still have a lot of value in our league. Our league had 14 members, a budget of $100 per team and each team starts five golfers per week with a total roster of 10 golfers.
Last season was wide open with no dominant players at the top. Jason Day went for $54, which was the lowest price paid for the top player since the league started in 2000. In 2013, we've seen a return to some dominant players with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy going for more than $60. Apparently everyone thinks Tiger is back, if not to his crazy dominant form that required this league to create special rules for him (we divided

Some surprising prices included V.J. Singh for just $1 (we think he's done since he turns 50). Trendy sleepers included Robert Garrigus at $16, Michael Thompson at $8, Ryo Ishikawa $7, Matt Every $7 and Billy Horschel $6. Ben Kohles at $5 was the top true rookie. Nicolas Colsaerts at $23 and Martin Kaymer $16 were two new full-timers on the PGA Tour who had bigger bids than when they played mostly in Europe.
While these dollar values may not exactly fit your league's rules, this should be a good benchmark for your draft preparation.
