2025 Fantasy Outlook
Spillane's rise in the NFL is an interesting case. He was an early-down linebacker and special teams contributor in Pittsburgh, but graduated to a near full-time defensive role in Las Vegas. His work in coverage suggests that his best fit is limited to primarily being a run stuffer, but the three-year, $33 million contract that he signed with New England this offseason tells us that coach Mike Vrabel views Spillane as a core defensive player and culture setter as the Patriots seek to get back to their winning ways. Given Spillane's lack of effectiveness in coverage, there is downside to his projection, though the worst-case scenario is that he remains elite against the run and sees a slight dip in his tackle total if he's taken off the field on clear passing downs. Solid first season in New England

Spillane notched 97 tackles, including 1.0 sacks, five defensed passes (including two interceptions) and a forced fumble over 13 regular-season games (all starts) during the 2025 campaign.
ANALYSIS
Spillane signed with the Patriots last March after a two-year run with Las Vegas during which he averaged 153 stops per season. While Spillane couldn't quite reach those numbers in his debut campaign in New England, he made an immediate impact as the Pats' leading tackler despite missing the final four games of the regular season due to an ankle injury. Spillane returned for the playoffs and posted 18 stops during New England's run to the Super Bowl in spite of missing most of the AFC Championship Game versus Denver as a result of reinjuring his ankle. Spillane is under contract through 2027 and figures to be a central figure in New England's defense again next year.

Spillane's 148 tackles (82 solo) paced the Raiders' defense by a wide margin in his first season with the team, but he also bolstered his IDP fantasy output with 3.5 sacks, four passes defensed, three interceptions, one forced fumble and a recovery in 17 games. A significant payday could be on the horizon for the former UDFA if he's able to replicate this production, given his current contract expires after the 2024 campaign. Regardless, Spillane is locked in as the starting middle linebacker for the silver and black this season.
As a fifth-year vet with the Steelers in 2022, Spillane racked up a career-high 79 tackles (52 solo) to go along with a sack and four passes defensed in 16 games, playing an expanded role at inside linebacker that included 565 total defensive snaps. Upon signing a two-year, $7 million deal with the Raiders this offseason, Spillane is slated to start at middle linebacker in defensive coordinator Patrick Graham's 4-3 scheme with Denzel Perryman departing for Houston.
Spillane played mainly on special teams over the first half of the season in 2021 but saw additional snaps on the defensive side of the ball over the final three weeks of the regular season. He racked up 56 tackles (29 solo) but will likely revert to a depth role on defense after the Steelers signed Myles Jack during the offseason.
Vince Williams announced his retirement on the eve of training camp in 2021, so Spillane should have a chance to carve out a starting role ahead of the regular season. The 25-year-old racked up a career-high 45 tackles (39 solo), two sacks, an interception, four pass breakups and a touchdown across 12 appearances last season.

Optimistic about Super Bowl
LBNew England Patriots
February 6, 2026
Spillane, who is listed as questionable for Sunday's Super Bowl LX matchup against the Seahawks, expressed optimism this week that he'll be able to play, Mike Reiss and Brady Henderson of ESPN.com report.
ANALYSIS
The veteran linebacker sandwiched a pair of limited practices around a missed Thursday session this past week. Spillane, who was a key part of New England's highly effective run defense and recorded 97 total tackles across 13 regular-season games, suffered the injury during the AFC Championship Game victory against the Broncos.
