2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Spillane has established himself as one of the premier run-defending linebackers in the league, but he has also been a liability in pass coverage. That combination didn't play out in his favor in 2025, as the Patriots consistently played from ahead, pushing opponents away from the run and toward the pass. That led to the highest proportion of Spillane's snaps coming in coverage of his career. New England is projected to face a more challenging schedule in 2026, which, counterintuitively, should help Spillane's production. The other thing to monitor will be a foot/ankle injury that hampered Spillane at the close of the 2025 campaign, though all signs point to him being healthy and a key member of the middle of the defense in 2026. Expect Spillane to re-establish himself as an elite early-down linebacker. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Solid first season in New England
Spillane notched 97 tackles, including 1.0 sacks, five defensed passes (including two interceptions) and a forced fumble over 13 regular-season games (all starts) during the 2025 campaign.
ANALYSIS
Spillane signed with the Patriots last March after a two-year run with Las Vegas during which he averaged 153 stops per season. While Spillane couldn't quite reach those numbers in his debut campaign in New England, he made an immediate impact as the Pats' leading tackler despite missing the final four games of the regular season due to an ankle injury. Spillane returned for the playoffs and posted 18 stops during New England's run to the Super Bowl in spite of missing most of the AFC Championship Game versus Denver as a result of reinjuring his ankle. Spillane is under contract through 2027 and figures to be a central figure in New England's defense again next year.

Spillane's rise in the NFL is an interesting case. He was an early-down linebacker and special teams contributor in Pittsburgh, but graduated to a near full-time defensive role in Las Vegas. His work in coverage suggests that his best fit is limited to primarily being a run stuffer, but the three-year, $33 million contract that he signed with New England this offseason tells us that coach Mike Vrabel views Spillane as a core defensive player and culture setter as the Patriots seek to get back to their winning ways. Given Spillane's lack of effectiveness in coverage, there is downside to his projection, though the worst-case scenario is that he remains elite against the run and sees a slight dip in his tackle total if he's taken off the field on clear passing downs.
