Gets two-year deal with Cleveland
LBCleveland Browns
March 9, 2026
Williams and the Browns agreed to a two-year contract Monday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Williams is expected to take the starting linebacker spot vacated by Devin Bush after the latter signed a three-year deal with the Bears on Monday. Williams logged 100-plus tackles in four consecutive seasons from 2021 to 2024, but that streak was broken last year after he missed four games while on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury. The Murray State product finished with 83 tackles (45 solo), including a career-high 3.5 sacks, and seven pass defenses across 13 regular-season games in 2025.

Williams has posted at least 106 tackles in each of his four seasons with the Jets while averaging five passes defensed. New head coach Aaron Glenn and defensive coordinator Steve Wilks bring different defensive philosophies from the departed Robert Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich, but Williams will be a linchpin of the defense regardless of scheme. The star linebacker played more than 99 percent of the team's defensive snaps in 2024 and posted 116 tackles, which was a slight decline from his total of 139 tackles in 2023, when Williams was named a first-team All-Pro.
Citing Williams' tackle total as the reason that 2023 was the best season of his career would be underselling what he managed to accomplish. He went from among the worst linebackers in coverage in the first four years of his career to the second-best inside linebacker in PFF coverage grade in 2023. Unsurprisingly, that led to more trust from the team and Williams' highest snap count in his five years as a pro. Williams had already proven himself as an excellent tackler but his ability to develop other areas of his game will help him maintain fantasy relevance - particularly in leagues that reward tackles.
Williams re-signed with the Jets on a three-year, $18 million contract after back-to-back 100-tackle seasons. The linebacker, who turns 27 in August, projects to return to a starting role in 2023. Quinnen Williams' brother can get lost in coverage at times and needs to work on his angles, but Quincy's one of the biggest hitters in the NFL and should continue to rack up plenty of tackles. Williams has complemented his 216 tackles over the past two seasons with 21 tackles for loss, five sacks, six passes defensed and three forced fumbles.
Williams had a breakout season in 2021 after the Jets scooped him up on waivers from Jacksonville. The hard-hitting linebacker totaled 110 tackles (73 solo), five passes defensed and three forced fumbles. Williams' pass coverage is a work in progress, but the Jets' coaches believe they can mold him into an effective three-down linebacker, and he's already one of the team's most proficient run defenders.

Demoted to backup role
LBNew York Jets
November 6, 2025
Williams was informed Wednesday that he has been demoted from his starting job, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Williams' role moving is uncertain, though he hopes to win his starting job back throughout the second half of the season. At 1-7 and having just traded away Sauce Gardner and Quincy's brother Quinnen Williams, the Jets are likely trying to get an extensive looks at some younger alternatives at linebacker over the second half of the season.
