Gets new deal in desert
Sweat is in line to sign a four-year, $76.4 million contract with the Cardinals, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Sweat cashes out on the open market following an impressive 2024 campaign with the Eagles that was capped by his 2.5-sack performance during the team's Super Bowl LIX win over the Chiefs. He's now totaled 6.0 or more sacks in five consecutive seasons and will provide a much-needed boost to Arizona's defensive front. The 8.0 sacks Sweat notched during the 2024 regular season would've led the Cardinals defense -- Zaven Collins finished No. 1 with just 5.0 sacks.

After jumping up to a career-high 11.0 sacks in 2022, Sweat fell back to 6.5 last season, which is in line with his totals from 2020 (6.0) and 2021 (7.5). The drop in production is disappointing considering that it came as Sweat saw a big jump in his snap share, going from 56 to 71 percent of defensive plays. He also had a slight decrease in tackles, going from 48 to 43. Sweat should remain an important part of the Eagles' pass rush this season, but his drop in output could lead to a return to the smaller role he had for most of his career.

Could exceed Hunter's deal
David DeChant, Jourdan Rodrigue and Vic Tafur of The Athletic believe Sweat will comfortably top $20 million per year on his next contract and could exceed the two-year, $49 million contract Danielle Hunter signed in the 2024 offseason.
ANALYSIS
Sweat likely drove up his asking price with the best game of his career in Super Bowl LIV, during which he sacked Patrick Mahomes 2.5 times and helped generate an interception with another pressure. While Sweat's sack numbers fall well short of Hunter's, Sweat brings strong run defense in addition to his ability to get to the quarterback. Sweat is one of five players ranked in Tier 1 of the 2025 free-agent class by The Athletic staff.
