Joey Slye

Joey Slye

28-Year-Old KickerK
New England Patriots
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Slye is known for his strong leg but hasn't been great on long kicks in the NFL, going 20 of 32 from 50-plus yards and making just 82.3 percent of his field-goal attempts overall through five seasons. After spending the past two years in Washington, he signed with Jacksonville in March to compete with Riley Patterson, only to be released less than two months later when the Jags drafted Cam Little. While he isn't a top kicker by any means, Slye has enough of a track record that he should find another chance to compete for a job before training camp. Read Past Outlooks

Perfect versus Bears
KNew England Patriots
November 10, 2024
Slye made all four of his field-goal attempts and his only extra-point try during New England's 19-3 win over the Bears on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Slye was perfect through all five of his kicks during Sunday's victory, and he outscored Chicago's entire team. He will look to build off this performance during the team's Week 11 matchup versus the Rams.

After splitting 2021 between three teams, Slye was Washington's kicker for all 17 games last season and converted 83.3 percent of FGAs and 85.7 percent of PATs. It was a decent showing overall, including 4-for-6 from 50-plus yards, but he missed three kicks in the season finale and finished with the third fewest points per game among placekickers with more than four appearances. Slye has a strong leg, so he can at least emerge as a streaming option if second-year QB Sam Howell elevates the Washington offense to respectability.
The Commanders re-signed Slye to a two-year deal this offseason, after he joined the team midseason and connected on all 12 of his field-goal attempts. The former Panther has one of the NFL's strongest legs, but he went just 9 of 17 from 50-plus yards in his two years with Carolina before being released last summer. Slye may face competition for his job this preseason, and he’s attached to a subpar offense either way.
Slye has the strongest biceps of any NFL kicker, and he might just have the strongest leg as well. However, he made just one of six tries from 50-plus last year, after going 8-of-11 from the same range as a rookie in 2019. He'll now face some competition from Matt Ammendola, who converted 76.9 percent of FGs and 97.8 percent of PATs in four seasons at Oklahoma State. Slye is the favorite, but it's no sure thing.
Slye became known as the "swole" kicker when he replaced an injured Graham Gano last year. He backed it up with strong results in September, and eventually finished the season strong, but in between he missed six field goals and four PATs in a seven-game stretch. Granted, he led the league with 11 attempts and eight makes from 50-plus yards, so Slye should have the edge if there's a preseason battle.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could win starting job with Pats
KNew England Patriots
July 8, 2024
Slye will compete in training camp with second-year kicker Chad Ryland for the starting job with the Patriots, Paul Perillo of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Slye spent the last two-plus seasons with Washington and had some success, completing 84.8 percent of his field-goal attempts including eight of 12 from 50 yards or longer. After signing a one-year contract with the Jaguars in March, however, he was cut loose when Jacksonville used a sixth-round pick in the 2024 Draft on Cam Little. Slye will now battle a 2023 fourth-round pick in Ryland, but the younger kicker is on shaky ground after a very inconsistent rookie campaign.
