Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Bates has always had ball-hawking tendencies, but his ability to force turnovers has taken off with the Falcons. In two years with the team, he's forced a combined 10 interceptions and seven fumbles. His tackle total took a step back during his second season in Atlanta, but 102 stops is hardly a concern. That's particularly true because he topped 1,000 defensive snaps for the second straight campaign and for the fifth time in his seven-year career. Bates enters his age-28 season in 2025, so there's no reason to believe his role or production will change for the negative. Other defensive backs will have more tackles, but Bates has arguably the safest floor at the position. Read Past Outlooks
Logs eight stops vs. Tampa Bay
Bates recorded eight total tackles (six solo) during Thursday night's 29-28 win over the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
After recording just six total tackles in the Falcons' previous two games, Bates returned to his usual output in Thursday's win. The veteran safety finished with the second-most tackles on Atlanta's defense, trailing Xavier Watts' nine-stop performance. Bates has played in all 14 of the Falcons' games this season, recording 85 total tackles, four passes defensed, including two interceptions, and one forced fumble. He's expected to remain one of the team's top defensive playmakers in the Week 16 matchup against the Cardinals.

Bates signed a four-year, $64 million deal with the Falcons prior to the 2023 season, making him one of the highest-paid safeties in the league. He lived up to that billing in his first year with the team, topping 1,000 defensive snaps for the first time since 2020. Bates primarily continued to work as a traditional free safety, though the one area he was asked to expand his usage was by stepping into coverage in the slot at a higher rate. He took quite well to that role, posting one of his better completion percentage against rates (63.2 percent) of his career as well as limiting receivers to 12.4 yards per reception. It's difficult to expect more than the 2023 stat line that Bates contributed, but there's no doubt that he'll remain a stalwart with the Atlanta defense.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Hoping to stay in Cincy
Bates would like to return to the Bengals in 2023, Olivia Ray of WLWT Cincinnati reports.
ANALYSIS
The safety played on the franchise tag this season, a decision which seemed to cause some friction last summer between Bates and the team, but with unrestricted free agency approaching the 25-year-old made it clear he didn't want to play for another team. "I'd love to be here, but that's out of my control," Bates said Monday. "Whatever happens at the end of the day, I can say I love my brothers like no other. I played my heart out like no other. And that's all you can really control, at the end of the day." Cincinnati is also facing the prospect of losing Vonn Bell in free agency, so one of the two could be brought back by the Bengals next season and starting alongside 2022 first-round pick Dax Hill.
