2025 Fantasy Outlook
Selected 36th overall last spring, Newton started 11 of his 16 regular-season games as a rookie, recording 44 tackles (six TFLs) and 2.0 sacks. It was a solid showing, but there's some risk he gets moved to a bench role or is subbed out frequently after the Commanders gave Javon Kinlaw a three-year, $45 million contract this offseason. Huge performance Christmas Day
Newton recorded nine tackles (three solo), including 3.0 sacks, during the Commanders' 30-23 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Newton took down Dak Prescott behind the line of scrimmage four times Thursday, two of which were solo sacks. Newton's 3.0 sacks were the most in his two-year NFL career and the first time that he has recorded double-digit sacks in a game. The 2024 second-rounder is up to 38 tackles (21 solo), including 5.0 sacks, one pass defense and one forced fumble through 16 regular-season games.

Makes Brooks' All-Breakout Team
Bucky Brooks of NFL.com has Newton as the defensive tackle on his 2025 All-Breakout Team.
ANALYSIS
A second-round pick out of Illinois in 2024, Newton was already impressive as a rookie with 44 total tackles, including seven quarterback hits and 2.0 sacks, a pass defensed, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble over 16 regular-season games. However, Brooks feels Newton could take another significant step forward in his second season, citing the fact he should have more responsibility and freedom in head coach Dan Quinn's scheme and become the designated playmaker on the defensive front with his ability to disrupt at the point of attack.
