2026 Fantasy Outlook
Warren is the perfect RB2 for a modern NFL offense because his adeptness on passing downs gives him a sixth-man sort of presence despite playing off the bench, and he can do a good short-term impression of an RB1 if the starter gets injured. The difficulty with Warren in 2025 was that he was forced to work as the RB1 too often, overworking him slightly as he took on more and bigger hits than he was previously accustomed to. Kaleb Johnson proved unable to earn playing time at all and Kenneth Gainwell could only withstand in-space functions, so Warren was forced to do more dirty work and more power running than would normally suit him. Because his rushing workload increased so substantially the Steelers were forced to limit his pass-catching activity, which badly sapped Warren's weekly fantasy upside while Gainwell regularly poached valuable touches, especially as a receiver. Gainwell was targeted at a blistering pace -- 85 times on 514 snaps -- but because Warren was worn out from heavy lifting as a runner Warren was only able to draw 45 targets on 489 snaps. The arrival of free agent Rico Dowdle dictates a reduction in Warren's carry count relative to 2025, but the departure of Gainwell means that Warren could be the heir to Gainwell's heavy receiving workload while striking a happier medium as a runner. Think maybe something like 150 carries instead of the 211 from last year, but with the opportunity to breeze past 60 receptions after catching only 40 in 2025. A workload with fewer carries should ultimately prove more sustainable for Warren. Read Past Outlooks

Slims down to 205 pounds
Warren said Thursday that he's down to 205 pounds this season, Chris Adamski of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Warren is listed at 215 pounds on the team's official site, and he looks noticeably slimmer at OTAs this week, according to Adamski. Warren set career highs as a rusher last season, carrying the ball 211 times for 958 yards and six touchdowns as part of the Steelers' backfield duo with Kenneth Gainwell, who left in the offseason as a free agent to join Tampa Bay. Pittsburgh replaced Gainwell with Rico Dowdle, and 2025 third-round pick Kaleb Johnson is also in the backfield mix after rushing just 28 times for 69 yards as a rookie. Dowdle is more of a prototypical early-down runner at 5-foot-11 and 215 pounds, so perhaps Warren slimmed down to get quicker as a change-of-pace and satellite back after Gainwell was targeted 85 times in 2025. Across four NFL seasons, Warren has 167 career regular-season catches for 1,227 yards and two touchdowns.

Warren got a lot of his playing time in passing situations the past three seasons, but Najee Harris' departure this offseason may have opened the door for a new role. Warren played that role behind Harris not because he couldn't do more but because the Steelers had already decided on Harris as their starter and bruiser. Warren thrived coming out of the bullpen, but before he was a passing-down back for the Steelers, he was a workhorse at both Oklahoma State and Utah State. He has an unusually stout frame at 5-foot-8, 215, and that anchor allows his feet to stay gripped to the ground while grinding through traffic. He'd be one of the league's slowest lead backs in terms of straight-line speed -- he ran a 4.55 40 in 2022, at a lighter weight of 204 -- but there are no other discernible weaknesses in his game, and the combination of pass-game skills and a stout build suggests he can stay on the field for all situations. The addition of rookie third-round pick Kaleb Johnson is a major complication, though not necessarily a death sentence for Warren's chances of becoming a starter. At 6-1, 224, Johnson looks similar to Harris and might even prove to be a better runner, but he'll first need to overcome the usual assortment of obstacles that can limit a talented rookie's playing time. Should Johnson struggle to acclimate, Warren appears capable of filling a workhorse role.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Team bringing back veteran QB
Warren is set to catch passes from Aaron Rodgers again in 2026, as Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Rodgers and the Steelers are expected to agree on a one-year contract.
ANALYSIS
Warren ranked fourth on the Steelers with 40 catches during the 2025 regular season, working as a reliable checkdown target for Rodgers. Their chemistry should be on display again in 2026, especially with the Steelers having replaced running back Kenneth Gainwell with Rico Dowdle, who is a far less accomplished pass catcher than either Gainwell or Warren. Gainwell led the team with 73 catches in the 2025 regular season.
