Could return during training camp
The Colts are targeting a return to football activities during training camp in July for Buckner (neck), JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Following a one-game return in Week 16 versus the 49ers, Buckner underwent surgery to address a neck injury he sustained in Week 9 at Pittsburgh last season. Per general manager Chris Ballard, Buckner is now in a good spot, and there's hope he'll be able to practice when training camp starts up in Indianapolis this summer. If available, he projects to play a major role on the interior of the Colts' defensive line in 2026.

Buckner displayed remarkable durability through his first eight NFL seasons, surpassing 750 defensive snaps in every season and failing to top 800 defensive snaps just once. That streak came to an end in 2024 when he missed five games due to an ankle injury, although he still managed to record 61 total tackles and displayed the same dominance he has shown throughout his career. While his health is a minor warning sign that his body might be starting to slow as he enters his age-31 campaign, Buckner remains a premier run stuffer and among the best defensive linemen at generating interior pressure on the quarterback.

Making progress in recovery
Buckner, who finished the 2025 season on injured reserve with a neck issue, has been progressing well from January surgery, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran defensive tackle's January procedure addressed a herniated disc that was pressing against a nerve. While Buckner was naturally subject to restrictions in the immediate aftermath of the surgery, he began running this week and is on track to be cleared by the start of training camp in July.
