Bellinger had a golden opportunity to carve out a prominent role as a pass catcher in 2024 after Darren Waller retired, but 2024 fourth-round pick Theo Johnson quickly surpassed Bellinger as the Giants’ top receiving tight end. Johnson underwent Lisfranc surgery in December but projects to lead Big Blue’s TE room once he recovers, leaving Bellinger to focus primarily on blocking. Bellinger’s receiving yardage has declined in each of his three NFL seasons, from 268 as a rookie in 2022 to 255 in 2023 and 125 in 2024. ANALYSIS
Bellinger was able to reel in multiple passes for the second straight week, most notably notching a 29-yard score in the second quarter. The tight end finished his fourth year in New York having caught 19 of 26 targets for a career-high 286 yards and two scores over 16 regular-season contests. Bellinger will be a free agent this offseason, and considering that the Giants appear to have found their long-term starter in Theo Johnson (illness), Bellinger may not return to New York next year. The 25-year-old has yet to exceed 30 catches in an NFL campaign, likely limiting potential interest in him on the open market.

Bellinger has started 24 games across his first two NFL seasons, but he failed to step up when Darren Waller missed five games due to a hamstring injury in 2023. Despite appearing in all 17 games after missing five as a rookie himself, Bellinger saw his yardage total drop from 268 to 255 and failed to find the end zone in his second season after scoring twice in 2022. Waller announced his retirement in June, but the Giants added tight end Theo Johnson in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, giving Bellinger new competition for snaps and targets. While Bellinger is the favorite to make the Week 1 start, Johnson is faster and more athletic and thus more likely to have fantasy utility if he does earn considerable playing time.
