Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
After two very productive seasons, Patterson's numbers dried up in 2023 after Bijan Robinson joined the Falcons' backfield, but that may not have been the sole reason his numbers cratered. Patterson turned 33 years old in March, and his 3.6 yards per carry last year might be a sign he's lost a step. The Steelers signed him to a two-year contract soon after his birthday, but they might be planning to use Patterson mainly as a kick returner rather than have him challenge Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren for touches out of the backfield. Set to miss another game
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Patterson (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Missi Matthews of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After exiting the Steelers' Week 4 loss to the Colts with an ankle injury, Patterson didn't practice in any capacity last week before being ruled out ahead of Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Cowboys. The 33-year-old doesn't sound like he's yet made much notable progress in his recovery from the injury, with Tomlin's decision to rule Patterson out for a second straight game early in the week suggesting that he's unlikely to practice in any fashion Wednesday through Friday. Additionally, Tomlin labeled Jaylen Warren (knee) as doubtful for Sunday's contest, so Warren's likely absence along with Patterson's should clear the way for Najee Harris to handle the majority of the snaps and touches out of the backfield in Week 6.

Patterson is overqualified as the projected RB3 for Atlanta behind rookie Bijan Robinson and second-year pro Tyler Allgeier. He was effective as a runner the past two years with the Falcons, turning 297 carries into 1,313 yards and 14 touchdowns (4.4 YPC) in 29 games. The 32-year-old began his career at receiver for a reason, though -- he's a big target with with an upright running style. Patterson is an all-time menace in the open field, which his incredible career kick returner production (29.5 YPR, nine touchdowns) also attests, but springing him from between the tackles is sometimes easier said than done. He'll likely end up in a backup role or timeshare even if the Falcons trade or release him, which is possible given the team's stout backfield depth and the $4.25 million in cap space it would free up.

Recruiting Adams to Pittsburgh
Patterson tweeted "man I know you ready to be a
[Steeler]" at Davante Adams after Sunday's 32-13 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Neither Patterson nor Adams played in Sunday's game, as Patterson has an ankle injury and Adams is dealing with a hamstring injury. Nevertheless, Patterson's hoping that Adams was impressed by what he saw from the Steelers. Adams has requested a trade out of Vegas, but no deal has materialized up to this point for the star wide receiver.
