It finally happened. After three years of operating under the simplified 3V3 format, Super Evil Megacorp has catapulted Vainglory into the world of 5V5 MOBAs with the release of Vainglory 5V5 as part of the game's 3.0 update on Tuesday.
Using Super Evil's E.V.I.L. engine, Vainglory 5V5 is making no compromises with this new mode. Much of the criticism surrounding Vainglory's original release centered around the simplification of the MOBA gametype. Hardcore fans of League of Legends and Dota 2 weren't content giving up some of the staples of the genre to play on the mobile platform. Super Evil heard all the complaints and addressed each one with Vainglory 5V5. All the MOBA staples of last-hitting, line-of-sight Fog of War, minion waves, free-moving camera, and complex macro strategies are here in full force.
Along with the gameplay changes, diehard fans of Vainglory will also notice a brand-new soundtrack by Joris de Man playing in the background of their 5V5 adventures. Man, most known for his work in the Killzone franchise and Horizon Zero Dawn, has composed a dynamic music system that adapts to how the game is being played. Whether you're going after a dragon or traversing the jungle, the experience will be different every time.
Fans won't have to wait too long to watch their favorite teams duke it out in the new format, either. After the preseason in April, the inaugural Vainglory Premier League (previously known as Vainglory8) will make its debut with the 5V5 format. The format will move to a double-round-robin complete with midseason and end-of-season playoffs. There will also be a single relegation tournament and regional championships to allow teams a shot at the World Championships at the end of the year.
While waiting for the competitive season to begin, fans can jump right in with Vainglory's Lunar New Year Event that kicks off February 15 and runs until February 22. By playing the new mode, fans will have a chance at winning in-game skins, with extra bonuses up for grabs by playing with new-year themed skins.
