The disparity in European skill only grew on Day 2 of MLG London with the predicted winners continuing their streaks. So far, Splyce looks poised to dominate the entire tournament with an unbroken 3-0 win streak. However, Splyce also had no real competition. Splyce's peers, Fnatic, Team Infused, and eLevate, have all been tucked away into other groups. The result has been more stompings in the group.
Millennium has lost any chance of getting into the playoffs as they lost their second game. It was a similar story for Black Forest Gaming, Bando, Hadouken, In2ition, FAB eSports, and Cyclone with all six losing their chances to place. Hadouken and Black Forest Gaming had the roughest series as both went up against Fnatic and Team Infused. Hadouken and Black Forest Gaming were the dark horses at MLG London but both failed to make the difficult upsets. Still, a shimmer of unrefined talent shined in Hadouken as Wailers "Wailers" Locart looks to be a surprise stand-out player. Locart was able to keep his team in the game with healthy KDs, crispy shots, and calm calls that nearly gave Hadouken Round 2 Search & Destroy.
As for the standings, Group A saw Splyce and Aware moving forward. But Group C was turned on its head with Team 3G beating Orbit in a 3-0 series. Orbit were a shadow of their Day 1 performance as Team 3G turned what might have been a challenging series into a breezy and brisk win. Now, Team 3G is guaranteed placement into the playoffs along with Orbit. As for Group B, eLevate and Epsilon eSports should be entering the playoffs Saturday. But newcomers The Imperial may be able to throw a wrench in their ambitions if The Imperial win against eLevate on Saturday. If The Imperial do win, then there will be three teams with a 2-1 score which would force Epsilon eSports, eLevate, and The Imperial into another round of games.
The match between eLevate and Epsilon eSports was the best of the evening with some astounding reversals. Early on it seemed like eLevate was going to wipe the floor with Epsilon eSport until Game 5 of Round 2 Search & Destroy. eLevate breezed through the first five games but Epsilon eSports was able to reverse sweep eLevate with a six game streak. Then, Epsilon eSports was able to take eLevate in Round 3 Uplink. The last two rounds became nail biters with both sides playing on full cylinders.
In Group D, both Team Infused and Fnatic will be heading to the playoffs. The biggest match of the day was supposed to be Fnatic vs. Team Infused, but both of them had already qualified for the playoffs, turning the much-anticipated series into a glorified practice round. While Fnatic would lose 3-0, most of the rounds would be close as both Round 1 Hardpoint and Round 3 Uplink saw unique plays from both sides.
