LoL Rankings: Support 2016 Summer Split

This article is part of our LoL Rankings series.

Support is an area in which you can wait on. While taking one of the top supports early gives you a boost over taking one from the bottom tier, you'll struggle overall if you're taking a support over a top level player in any other role. The top ten supports are listed below. There's no reason to draft two supports so even in an eight team league, only eight of these players should be drafted.

Tier 1 (in alphabetical order): Adrian, Mithy

MithyG212.06938134

* Points Per Game are based on the Fantasy LCS scoring system found: http://fantasy.na.lolesports.com/en-US

When you look at supports, you are generally searching for assists, making the players on the best teams usually your best option. While Immortals may take a step back from their incredible Spring Split regular season, I'd expect them to still be a top team in NA this year. Adrian is finally getting the credit he deserves after being an underappreciated member of Team Impulse. The one thing that could potentially be scary when thinking about drafting Adrian is how bad Immortals did against TSM in a best-of-series. With the LCS switching to best-of's for the Summer, could Immortals fall off hard? I doubt it, as they have too much talent to be anything less than a top three team.

Mithy, and in partnership Zven, really kept Origen afloat through most of the Spring Split before the team came alive in the playoffs. However, thanks to the rough start, Mithy's stats aren't as gaudy as they were a year ago. This should change for the better with his recent move to G2. Not only does he keep Zven as a bottom lane partner, but he adds aggressive players like Perkz and Trick to help pad his assist total.

Tier 2: Aphromoo, Matt, Vander, Yellowstar

MattTeam Liquid16.01747173
VanderH2K16.941527177
YellowstarFnatic13.13254157

Let other people waste early round picks taking a support and try to snag a player from this tier in the middle rounds if you can. This tier includes three veterans in Aphromoo, Yellowstar, and Vander. Vander exceeded my expectations last split and ended up finishing third in assists, despite having a pacifist for an AD Carry. Aphromoo and Yellowstar remain strong options to be your starting support as each player knows how to make plays. With Yellowstar moving back to Europe, it may even give him a bump as he returns to a more familiar league and set up with Fnatic.

Matt had an excellent rookie split which saw him finish sixth in assists. Team Liquid finished the Spring Split on fire and should have improved over the break. Look for Matt and Liquid to be a top team in North America this split.

Tier 3: BunnyFuFuu, Hybrid, Hylissang, kaSing

PlayerTeamPoints Per GameKillsDeathsAssists
BunnyFuFuuCloud 94.04067
HybridOrigen17.631125187
HylissangUoL15.641049173
kaSingVitality15.151230159

If you miss out on a support from the first two tiers, there remains good value late in drafts. BunnyFuFuu is set to take over the starting support role from Hai and with an improved Jensen and new top laner in Impact, Cloud9 should be ready to challenge for a top spot in the league. Bunny had an excellent Summer Split in 2015 leading Gravity to the top of the NA LCS standings in surprising fashion.

Hybrid takes a slight bump in value by moving to Origen, but he remains a good player. The one thing I'd worry about is the fact that he will now will be playing with FORG1VEN. Does that mean that Origen will take a more stagnant approach to games like we saw H2K do? That I'm not sure, but Vander finished the Spring Split on H2K with 177 assists, so a high total is not out of the question. Hylissang is the model of consistency as he is often one of the top support's come seasons end. He finished fifth in assists during the Spring Split and although UoL may take a slight step back, he remains a steady late round option.

Similarly, kaSing is also a quite consistent pick. The reason I moved kaSing into my third tier is that he loses Hjarnan as an AD Carry this split, with Police taking over. I thought this was a curious move as Hjarnan has been one of the better AD Carries in Europe over the past year. Vitality remain a strong team and kaSing should be near the top of the assist charts once again.
