A few weeks back, Epic dropped a massive 100 million dollar bomb by announcing that they'd be pumping dump trucks full of money into the competitive Fortnite scene. While we knew how much would be doled out over the course of the 2018-2019 season, we didn't know anything about how that money would be doled out. Until now, that is.
The Fortnite World Cup is coming, y'all. Qualifiers kick off in the Fall of 2018 and will culminate in the first World Cup in the Fall of 2019.
Focusing on Solos and Duos, at all levels of play will have a chance to get into the action and earn a spot at the World Cup next year. Epic also confirmed that it will not be selling any franchises or teams spots into the World Cup, meaning that everything will be based on gameplay alone. No handouts, folks!
The entire $100 million pot won't be poured into this one event, either. Epic will lend support to "organized events, online events, and major organized competition all over the world," giving people plenty of chances to get their hands on that fat prize pool.
More details, including rules, player code of conduct, specifics about platforms, and the Fall 2018 schedule, are on their way in the near future.
With this announcement and the highly successful Pro-Am that took place at E3 this week, Fortnite esports is about to hit the big time and we cannot wait.
