This article is part of our Fortnite series.
And here. We. Go.
After announcing the Fortnite World Cup as part of its effort to dole out $100 million over the first year of competitive Fortnite, Epic Games has just announced the Summer Skirmish Series that will feature $8 million in prize money.
Kicking off this weekend with a $250,000 Duos competition, the summer is about to heat up in a big way. The player pool will be made up of content creators and other players who have demonstrated their skills to Epic. While the events during the World Cup were detailed to have an open system where anyone can participate, the Summer Skirmish Series will feature invitees hand-picked by Epic itself. The invitations have already been sent out for the initial matches, though we don't yet know all who will be participating.
While this weekend will see a Duos tournament, the format for the eight-week series will change week-to-week, ensuring that the action won't go stale with the same format every week.
Given the popularity of the Fornite Friday weekly tournaments, you can bet that the Summer Skirmish Series will be but one step towards a summer fully dominated by Fortnite.
