Technical problems, scheduling conflicts, jet lag and even illness continue to plague Day 2 of CWL Paris. The problems affected the quality of a significant portion of games today. For example, CWL Paris' Bravo stream was left without any commentators the entire day. But despite all that, the top from across the world fought valiantly for a great round of games. The loser's and winner's brackets were decided after the unsurprising conclusions of pool play. OpTic Gaming, Team EnVyUs, Team Infused, Rise Nation, and FaZe Clan all entered without a hitch. Open bracket and the loser's bracket, however, had some real surprises.
Evil Geniuses entered from the long and difficult open bracket into the loser's Bracket where they put together a stunning upset over Enigma6. Meanwhile, eUnited, the winners of MLG Atlanta, were knocked out from CWL Paris after a loss to Luminosity Gaming. The loss could be chalked up to eUnited's unfamiliarity with tough open bracket runs, but the loss is still surprising nevertheless. Luminosity Gaming had no chance to bask in their success as they immediately got knocked out after separate losses to Fnatic and Epsilon eSports.
Epsilon eSport entered into the loser's bracket against Red Reserve, formerly Team Orbit, and battled in a close 3-2 series. With Enigma6 and Luminosity Gaming gone, Epsilon eSports and Evil Geniuses, the two dark horses of the tournament, will square off tomorrow morning in what should be an interesting match that could set the stage for a shake-up at CWL Paris.
In the winner's bracket, OpTic Gaming continues to dominate. The Green Wall started their day strong with a win over Team EnVyUs, one of their top rivals, in a 3-0 stomp. Team Infused was the next unfortunate team to face OpTic Gaming, only to be run down in another 3-0 sweep.
Rise Nation had a very strong run despite jet lag and a stomach virus that Ulysses "Aqua" Silva and Tyler "Felony" Johnson caught. Daniel "Loony" Loza confirmed on his Twitter that he got only four hours of sleep in the last few days, while Felony mentioned on Twitter that he had to at one point play on top of a power generator because of LAN problems. The scheduling was rough for everyone at CWL Paris but it seemed Rise Nation got the worst of it. However, Rise Nation clawed their way into the winner's bracket, managing to beat Enigma6, and took it all the way into the semifinals against FaZe Clan. FaZe Clan beat the weakened Rise Nation in a 3-1 series, a game that was punctuated by an incredibly loud and distracting "Just Dance" Championships playing right next to the teams. Rise Nation will fall to the loser's bracket facing the winner of Splyce vs. Fnatic.
