Group Yellow is set to be the brutal "group of death" in Stage 1, with the likes of eUnited, Epsilon eSports, Millenium and Luminosity Gaming all fighting for top placement. And with two tournament winners and some of the very best in America and Europe in this group, things will get bloody fast.
eUnited and Epsilon eSports seem to be the likely candidates to take the top-two seeds. Both eUnited and Epsilon eSports are tournament winners that have beaten the best of the best, from OpTic Gaming to Splyce to FaZe Clan. eUnited's riskier strategy of flanking and SMG-focused combat has allowed for Pierce "Gunless" Hillman to rise to the top at CWL Vegas, while Epsilon eSports' slow and methodical styles allowed them to sweep from the loser's bracket at CWL Birmingham.
The two teams are drastically different in playstyle, except for one common factor: both can win games while losing in KD stats. eUnited has also yet to fight Epsilon eSports after they added Joshua-Lee "Joshh" Shepard of Splyce fame. It'll be very close fight for first place, but Epsilon eSports seem the most likely team to take the first seed placement, especially after their explosive performance at CWL Birmingham. eUnited would trail closely behind Epsilon eSports in second.
Third and fourth, like first and second in this group, will be close. Both Millenium and Luminosity Gaming haven't won tournaments, but both have slotted in comfortably in the 5th-10th portion of brackets seemingly every major tournament. Neither have yet to break the top-tiers. However, both are made of some relatively hungry newcomers. For example, Luminosity Gaming contains the greener roster of Rise Nation's Call of Duty: Black Ops III lineup, outside of Daniel "Loony" Loza.
Nicholas Di "Classic" Costanzo and Sam "Octane" Larew proved they can slay in Call of Duty: Black Ops III's competitive season. But neither have made the outstanding clutch performances they were known for while under Rise Nation. Yet. That could begin to change this weekend when they have to step-up to the likes of eUnited and Epsilon eSports. With all that said, they look set to take third place.
Meanwhile, Millennium have struggled on-and-off across the season. Formerly known as Team Infused, the team has, like Luminosity Gaming, trailed behind the top-tiers. Tom "Moose" Handley is an aggressive slayer in the slower European meta, both for better and for worse. At CWL Birmingham, Moose's aggression did take Millenium to 4th-5th place only to lose out to Fnatic. And Fnatic, somewhat infamously, placed fourth in Group Blue only last weekend. If Millenium lost out to Fnatic, a fourth-seed team, then it seems likely to follow that they will take fourth in a much more competitive group.
However, after the wild weekend in Group Blue anything seems possible. Group Yellow plays this weekend beginning May 5 at 4:00 pm ET on MLG's Youtube channel, MLG.tv, and in-game in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
