Support players of Overwatch rejoiced on Friday afternoon when Blizzard announced the newest hero, Moira, to raucous applause at the Anaheim Convention Center. While DPS players were likely left wanting a bit more, supports have a lot to look forward to with this newest hero.
According to Jeff Kaplan, Game Director of Overwatch, Moira is spelled "OP AF," and when the sizzle reel of her abilities played, it was easy to see just how powerful this hero may be. She's a support healer with a catch. While a hero like Mercy is able to do damage with her secondary weapon, her abilities are purely centered around the ability to heal her team. Moira is a whole different beast, as her abilities are an even mix of healing and DPS. All of her weapons and abilities can both heal and damage, making her an interesting addition to the roster. Let's dive into her skillset.
Moira's main weapon, Biotic Grasp, is a beam that can heal her teammates and damage her enemies, which likely performs similarly to Ana's main weapon. Her first ability, Fade, is a simple teleport to give her great mobility. Her second ability, Biotic Orb, is a, well, orb with an effect that either heals enemies or damages enemies. Finally, her ultimate, Coalescence, is a long-range beam that heals teammates and damages enemies at the same time. Not only that, but it bypasses barriers (sorry, Reinhardt) during the ultimate's duration.
Yeah, pretty strong.
We'll have some impressions and a deeper dive into Moira and how she fits into the current meta once we get some hands-on play with her over the weekend. For now, take a look at her toolbox with Blizzard's intro video down below.
