After the success of its first Mobile Masters event back in June, Amazon has decided to double down on esports by bringing around the second iteration of the event to Las Vegas on October 14th and 15th. The action will all go down at the Millennial Esports Arena at Neonopolis, a brand new arena dedicated to all things esports, which alone should be an interesting venture. While still leaving Vainglory in the lineup, Amazon has decided to expand upon the other games featured at the event.
Say goodbye to Hearthstone and Summoners War, and say hello to World of Tanks Blitz, Critical Ops, and Power Rangers: Legacy Wars. Playing these games will be some of the most well-known teams in the esports world, including SK Gaming, TSM, Fnatic, Immortals, Echo Fox, Rogue, Imperials, and more. With such seemingly unknown titles this time around, the inclusion of these high-profile teams will certainly lend a helping hand to getting mobile esports off the ground.
Kicking things off on Saturday, October 14 will be World of Tanks Blitz. One of the earliest esports titles out there, World of Tanks sees players duke it out on the battlefield with a slate of tanks. The formula actually managed to translate over well to the mobile side of the equation. How this comes out as an esport remains to be seen, but it will certainly be explosive (pun intended).
Next up will be Critical Ops, one of the freshest titles on the scene. While Vainglory brought MOBAs to life on the small screen, Critical Ops is here to scratch the first-person shooter itch. While the graphics are a bit limited due to the hardware restrictions, this game doesn't skimp on the gameplay. It's basically a mini-Counter-Strike:Global Offense, which is a sight for sore eyes in the mobile scene.
Opening up Sunday will be a game that's quite near and dear to the heart of this 90's child right here. Power Rangers: Legacy Wars is a game that any fan of nostalgia will be glad to get their hands on. With a roster filled with Rangers from Season 1 all the way to Rangers from the newest movie, which I swear is better than the critics will tell you, it's any Power Rangers fan's dream. Build your team and battle it out in a Tekken Tag Tournament style 3-vs-3 fighting game. I, for one, cannot wait to see what players will do with this one on the big stage.
Closing out the weekend will be another showing of Vainglory, the perennial mobile esports title. While the last Mobile Masters saw the teams battle it out in a King of the Hill-type tournament, I'd guess that this one will be a more traditional showing considering the top-level teams that will be in attendance.
With such a strong slate of games, Mobile Masters Las Vegas will certainly be another worthwhile step towards growing the legitimacy of mobile esports. Attendance to the event is free, so it's definitely one to check out if you're in the area. If you can't make it out, you can catch all the action on Amazon Appstore's Twitch page starting October 14th at 1 p.m. ET.
