Finishes career with TD in bowl
January 1, 2020
Johnson hauled in three catches for 92 yards and a touchdown on six targets in Tuesday's win over Utah in the Alamo Bowl.
ANALYSIS
Johnson was marred by injuries during his senior season, however, managed 38 catches for 559 yards and three touchdowns on 63 targets in seven games of action. His best year came in 2018 when he converted 68 of 109 targets for 985 yards and seven touchdowns. He'll likely receive interest from the NFL as he has prototypical size and speed for the position. Texas will need to establish new targets for quarterback Sam Ehlinger as they lose both Johnson and Devin Duvernay to graduation.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2019
2018
Johnson is Texas’ top returning receiver and has an established rapport with Sam Ehlinger. They connected on 68 of 109 targets for 985 yards and seven scores in 2018, and with Lil’Jordan Humphrey gone, Johnson is projected for a larger target. Johnson is a big-framed receiver (6-6) that makes him a matchup problem; however, Texas has a penchant for running it in the red zone with Ehlinger, which has led to disappointing numbers in that area for Johnson. Still, Johnson has an assured role and the skill to find the end zone even if he’s underutilized in the red zone.
Either Tom Herman fooled everyone or the Texas passing game has to get going eventually, and if it does it would set up Johnson for a breakout season in his junior year. That Johnson finished last year with 765 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games isn't impressive at a glance, but there's potential for growth when presuming the typical wide receiver development curve, especially if the Texas quarterbacks can do better than 6.7 yards per attempt and 18 touchdowns on 499 attempts. It's worth recalling Johnson's blue chip pedigree when considering his 2018 projection, too.
