New York Giants: Team Draft Needs

This article is part of our NFL Draft Team Needs series.

Team Draft Picks (8)

Round 1 (19)
Round 2 (49)
Round 3 (81)
Round 4 (116)
Round 5 (152)
Round 6 (187)
Round 7 (225)
Round 7 (253)

1. Linebacker

As of right now, the Giants will start Keith Rivers, Dan Connor and Jacquian Williams in the middle line of their defense. The team also lacks depth behind that unimpressive trio. Simply put, the Giants need options both on the inside and outside of their linebacking corps. Multiple bodies, with probably at least two being starting-caliber bodies.

Potential Targets:

First round

Alec Ogletree, Georgia
Arthur Brown, Kansas State
Kevin Minter, LSU
Manti Te'o, Notre Dame

Second round

Sio Moore, Connecticut
Kiko Alonso, Oregon

Third round

DeVonte Holloman, South Carolina
Jon Bostic, Florida
Kevin Reddick, North Carolina

Fourth round

Khaseem Greene, Rutgers
Sean Porter, Texas A&M
Keith Pough, Howard
Steve Beauharnais, Rutgers

Fifth through seventh rounds

Chase Thomas, Stanford
Nico Johnson, Alabama
Jelani Jenkins, Florida
Etienne Sabino, Ohio State
Kenny Tate, Maryland
Taylor Reed, SMU

2. Cornerback

Unlike the linebacking unit, the Giants secondary at least has able bodies. But similar to the 'backers, the Giants need a playmaking DB who can stay healthy. Right now, at least on paper, if the Giants front four doesn't put tons of pressure on opposing quarterbacks, this defense is ripe for the picking.

Potential Targets

First round

Xavier Rhodes, Florida State
Desmond Trufant, Washington
Jamar

3. Offensive Line

While this may not be a pressing need heading in to 2013, it's a position of age and limited depth for the Giants. Looking ahead, they'll need help a season from now, and would be wise to start planning for the future in the trenches.

First round

D.J. Fluker, Alabama
Menelik Watson, Florida State

Second round

Kyle Long, Oregon
Justin Pugh, Syracuse
