2025 Fantasy Outlook
The No. 12 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Topic missed his entire rookie season while recovering from a torn ACL. He was cleared for basketball activities toward the end of the 2024-25 campaign but never saw game action. He made his Thunder debut during Summer League, showcasing intriguing offensive upside while struggling with efficiency. The reigning champs are running it back in 2025-26, led by the regular-season and Finals MVP. Topic will compete for the primary backup spot behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with Ajay Mitchell, Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe, Aaron Wiggins and Alex Caruso. Topic has a higher upside than any of the returning reserves, but with Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren leading the way, Oklahoma City doesn't need another star soaking up usage. Topic will have to earn more minutes by playing efficiently in limited action, which may take time. Without a guaranteed role on a contending team, selecting Topic comes with obvious risk, but his unique skill set gives him immense fantasy potential, so managers have to keep close tabs on him. Topic is expected to miss the first month of the regular season after undergoing testicular surgery. Read Past Outlooks
Undergoes back surgery
Topic (back) underwent surgery Saturday and is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, Justin Martinez of The Oklahoman reports.
ANALYSIS
With the Thunder's season over, Topic underwent a minimally invasive lumbar microdiscectomy procedure, and the operation shouldn't impact his availability for the start of the 2026-27 campaign. The guard played sparingly during the postseason after appearing in 10 regular-season games for Oklahoma City, averaging 5.2 points, 4.4 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 16.0 minutes per contest.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Topic was selected by the Thunder with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. However, Thunder general manager Sam Presti said that he doesn't expect Topic to play for Oklahoma City during the upcoming season due to a partially torn ACL. Listed at 6-foot-6 with a 6-foot-11 wingspan, Topic is a big point guard who's a gifted passer but a shaky perimeter shooter, making his skill set somewhat reminiscent of Josh Giddey, whom the Thunder recently traded to the Bulls. Though he won't be a factor in the Thunder rotation during the upcoming campaign, Topic is expected to be around the team and conduct his rehab in Oklahoma City, much like 2022 No. 2 overall pick Chet Holmgren did in his first professional season while recovering from a foot injury.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Undergoes back surgery
Topic underwent a lumbar microdiscectomy Saturday and will miss Summer League, though the Thunder expect him to be ready for training camp, according to Jeff Patterson and Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman.
ANALYSIS
The procedure marks the latest setback for the 2024 first-round pick, who has already battled a torn ACL and testicular cancer early in his professional career. Assuming he makes a full recovery, Topic could compete for a larger rotation role in 2026-27 after showing flashes of his playmaking ability during a limited rookie campaign.
