Labaron Philon

Labaron Philon was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama and put together a decorated high school career. He was named Alabama Mr. Basketball as a junior behind 35.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. He transferred to Link Academy in Missouri as a senior, with the team making the national semifinals. Philon also participated in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League. The top-30 recruit eventually committed to playing college basketball with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Behind 10.6 points, 3.8 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 24.7 minutes per game, Philon was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and earned three Freshman of the Week honors. Philon plays with a physicality above his frame and hustles hard on both ends of the floor. He's a capable on-ball defender and will bother opposing players with his intensity. Offensively, he uses his feel, footwork and change of direction to generate good looks for himself and his teammates. His floater is an important part of his repertoire, as his outside shooting is a work in progress. Philon will bring playmaking and energy to both sides of the ball. Developing a more reliable jumper, especially from deep, will be crucial for him to reach his ceiling. However, he already has strong footwork and a strong floater as a starting point. He shares some playstyle similarities to Tyreke Evans, Elfrid Payton and Ty Jerome.
