2025 Fantasy Outlook
Vanderbilt has appeared in only 65 regular-season games over the past two seasons. He ended the 2024-25 campaign healthy and will have a role in 2025-26, but given the injury concerns, it's safe to assume Vanderbilt will be used cautiously. With Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, LeBron James, Rui Hachimura and Deandre Ayton the likely starters, Vanderbilt will compete for reserve minutes with Marcus Smart, Dalton Knecht, Jake LaRavia and Maxi Kleber. Due to Vanderbilt's defensive prowess, he always finds himself in the rotation when healthy. However, it's hard to imagine him playing 20-plus minutes consistently when everyone is available. That doesn't mean he won't have any value. Vanderbilt has averaged 1.1 steals in 20.7 minutes per game over the past five seasons, and his elite per-36 defensive production is enough for fantasy managers to monitor his role throughout the season. Moves back out of rotation
Vanderbilt (coach's decision) didn't receive any playing time Monday in the Lakers' 100-92 win over the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
After a recent stretch in which he appeared in five straight games and averaged 12.0 minutes, Vanderbilt has now been left out of head coach JJ Redick's rotation for the past two contests. The Lakers seem content to lean on Jaxson Hayes and Rui Hachimura to fill out minutes in the frontcourt when starters LeBron James and Deandre Ayton are off the court.

A right mid-foot sprain limited Vanderbilt to only 29 regular-season appearances (six starts) during the 2023-24 campaign. The defensive-minded forward was an integral part of the Lakers' postseason rotation the previous year when Los Angeles advanced to the Western Conference Finals before ultimately losing to Denver. The Lakers lost to the Nuggets in last season's playoffs again, but this time it was a rare first-round exit for a LeBron James-led squad. The Lakers felt Vanderbilt's absence all season, as they constantly changed and shifted lineups looking for a spark. Now healthy, Vanderbilt is set to play an integral, cohesive role for the star-studded Lakers. He may not start in the frontcourt, but Vanderbilt should see consistent minutes regardless of his role. However, for fantasy purposes, there's not much to see. He's a solid rebounder and defender, but his outside shooting is a major concern. Vanderbilt is better utilized in non-category settings, but even then, he's not going to deliver enough production to be a must-roster player in standard leagues.

Could be packaged for wing upgrade
The Lakers are making Vanderbilt available in trade conversations, Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt and Gabe Vincent are both rumored to be available if the right opportunity presents itself. O'Connor mentions that the duo could potentially be dealt for an upgraded wing, though it's unclear whether many teams would be interested in making this kind of deal. Vanderbilt hasn't been contributing much since the calendar turned to 2026, averaging 5.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in seven games.
