2024 Fantasy Outlook
After missing all of his true rookie season with a foot injury, Holmgren debuted last season. The No. 2 overall pick from 2022 didn't disappoint, putting together a strong season that would have landed him Rookie of the Year honors were it not for Victor Wembanyama. Offensively, Holmgren was efficient, averaging 16.5 points and 1.6 threes on 53/37/79 shooting. On defense, his shot-blocking was elite, averaging 2.3 swats per game, which was good for the second-highest block percentage (7.3%) in the league. His rebounding was solid (7.9 per game) but certainly lower than hoped for given his 7-foot-1 frame. The Thunder were one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA last season, and they addressed that issue in the offseason by adding center Isaiah Hartenstein. Regardless of how much center or power forward Holmgren plays, he could be in the mix for more offensive responsibilities as his game develops, especially with the team trading away Josh Giddey for Alex Caruso. Holmgren's rebounding and shot-blocking could be affected negatively, but it's possible he will make up for it with more points, assists and steals. Either way, with Holmgren already establishing himself as a top-40 fantasy asset, managers shouldn't feel like they're taking much risk taking him in the second or third round as he enters his age-22 season. Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Chet Thomas Holmgren was born May 1, 2002 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Holmgren's father, Dave, is also seven feet tall and played 57 games of college basketball for Minnesota. His father helped him develop his game growing up. Chet started attending Minnehaha Academy - a private school in Minneapolis - in sixth grade, when he stood 6-foot-2. He played alongside NBA player Jalen Suggs from then through high school. The school won its second straight Class 2A state championship while Holmgren was a freshman. However, Holmgren's breakout year was as a sophomore, when he averaged 18.6 points and 11.0 rebounds and also secured another state title. He also played AAU ball for Grassroots Sizzle and won tournament MVP at the Under Amour Association. As a junior, Holmgren averaged 14.3 points per game. As a senior, he averaged 21.0 points and 12.3 boards and won the Class 3A state title. Holmgren was also named Gatorade National Player of the Year among various other awards. According to ESPN, Holmgren was the No. 1 player in the 2021 class. The big recruit decided to play college ball at Gonzaga. During his college debut for the Bulldogs, Holmgren posted 14 points, 13 boards, seven blocks and six assists, becoming the first college player in a quarter-century to record at least 10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five blocks in a debut. Starting 31 of 32 appearances, Holmgren averaged 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.7 blocks and 1.9 assists over 26.9 minutes per contest. He was named WCC Newcomer of the Year, WCC Defensive Player of the Year and was Consensus All-American Second Team. After his freshman season, Holmgren declared for the 2022 NBA Draft and was selected with the number two pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Hip
November 11, 2024
Holmgren suffered a right iliac hip fracture during Sunday's loss to the Warriors, and a return to play protocol will be provided in 8-to-10 weeks, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Holmgren played five minutes and recorded four rebounds before leaving Sunday's contest after attempting to block Andrew Wiggins. Isaiah Joe started the second half in place of Holmgren, but the Thunder likely need to add some height to the rotation eventually, especially with Isaiah Hartenstein (hamstring), Kenrich Williams (knee) and Jaylin Williams (hamstring) also sidelined. In their absences, Aaron Wiggins, Dillon Jones and Ousmane Dieng could carve out larger roles, but in the end, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams will need to step their respective games up to help mitigate the loss of Holmgren, whose 2.6 blocks per game was fueling the Thunder's top-rated defense early in the season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
After missing the entirety of his rookie season due to a foot injury, Holmgren comes into the 2023-24 season with hype. While it is a very small sample size, Holmgren's numbers at the recent Summer League did very little to dampen the spirits of prospective managers. Across four games, he averaged 16.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 3.5 blocks. His percentages were serviceable, coming in at 48.9 percent from the field and 73.1 percent from the line. Obviously, the block numbers are an immediate takeaway, something his fantasy game is likely to be reliant on. He has the ability to stretch the floor, but as we saw in Las Vegas, he only connected on 0.3 three-pointers per game. He should open the regular season as the Thunder's starting center, providing him with an opportunity to be a fantasy-relevant player right out of the gate. The Thunder are a team on the rise, meaning he could very well be the third or even fourth option on offense at times. Coming off a foot injury could steer some managers in another direction. His upside on the defensive end should be enough to keep him afloat, even if his offensive game takes a while to come along. Walker Kessler finished as a fifth-round asset last season, blocking 2.3 shots per game. His offensive game is certainly a work in progress, averaging just 9.2 points. It's reasonably safe to assume Holmgren will average double-digit points, while potentially blocking more than two shots per game. Based on this very loose logic, managers should be looking to target him anywhere around pick 60.
Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, will miss the entire 2022-23 season due to a Lisfranc injury to his right foot. Obviously, he shouldn't be drafted in year-long leagues. However, managers in dynasty/keeper formats should still view Holmgren as a high-end prospect with arguably the highest fantasy ceiling of any player in the 2022 NBA Draft class.

Anchoring OKC's defense
COklahoma City Thunder
November 6, 2024
Holmgren is limiting opponents to 41.9 percent shooting in the paint this season, trailing only Victor Wembanyama and Donovan Clingan, per Danny Marang of 1080 The Fan Portland.
ANALYSIS
Holmgren often being surrounded by stout perimeter defenders Luguentz Dort, Alex Caruso and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander makes his job easy, but Oklahoma City posting a 93.7 defensive rating through the team's first seven contests is an extraordinary figure. Golden State currently ranks second with a 102.5 defensive rating, while Minnesota easily paced the league with a 108.9 defensive rating last season. Oklahoma City will regress closer to the mean, but Holmgren's effectiveness thus far is elite.
