Coming off an underwhelming rookie campaign, Wesley played even fewer minutes last season. He averaged 4.4 points and 2.7 assists in 14.4 minutes per game. Looking ahead to the 2024-25 season, Wesley could be in for yet another regression, especially with Chris Paul landing in San Antonio. The Spurs now have Paul, Tre Jones and Stephon Castle as point guard options, meaning Wesley could struggle to crack the nightly rotation. With his arrow pointed firmly in the wrong direction, Wesley can be safely ignored in just about every fantasy format, barring a slew of injuries in San Antonio. Read Past Outlooks
$Signed a two-year, $4.89 million contract with the Spurs in July of 2022. Spurs exercised $2.62 million team option for 2024-25 in October of 2023. Contract includes $4.73 million team option for 2025-26.
Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Wesley was born March 16, 2003, in South Bend, Indiana. His father, Derrick Sr., was a two-time MVP for the Cardinals, finished his career as the school's third all-time leading scorer and was inducted into the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998. Blake played for James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana. He took a jump during his junior year when he averaged 26.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. In his senior season, Wesley averaged 27.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game, leading Riley to a 19-7 record and the Class 4A sectional title. He was named to the Indiana All-Star team and ranked as the No. 82 prospect by ESPN.com. On Nov. 20, 2020, he committed to playing college basketball for Notre Dame, choosing the Fighting Irish over offers from Creighton, Kansas State, Louisville, Maryland, Purdue and Xavier. Wesley had an immediate impact during his freshman season at Notre Dame, averaging 14.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He shined during March Madness, where he helped Notre Dame put away Alabama in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with 18 points, which included a personal 6-0 run in the second half. His transition steal and break-away dunk would put the Irish up double digits for good late in the contest. He was nominated to the 2022 All-ACC Second Team. Eventually, this led him to be selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 25th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Near double-double off bench
GSan Antonio Spurs
November 8, 2024
Wesley ended Thursday's 118-105 victory over the Trail Blazers with 10 points (4-4 FG, 2-2 FT), one rebound, eight assists and two steals in 21 minutes.
ANALYSIS With Jeremy Sochan (thumb), Devin Vassell (foot) and Tre Jones (ankle) sidelined and Malaki Branham (ankle) leaving the contest early, Wesley saw an increased role and made the most of it, recording season highs in points, assists, steals and minutes played. It was only the fourth time Wesley played double-digit minutes this season, and despite the solid performance, he'll likely remain in a limited role. Sochan is expected to miss multiple weeks, but Vassell has been cleared to make his season debut Saturday, while Jones and Branham could be back sooner than later.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
One of two guards selected in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft by the Spurs, Wesley pieced together a decent run over his five Summer League appearances, averaging 17.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals over 30.6 minutes. However, shooting efficiency certainly didn't turn heads in a good way. Wesley connected on just 30.0 percent of his 18 field goal attempts per contest and 34.4 percent from deep, efficiencies that won't gain him much favor. He'll have to improve on that number if he's going to claim a regular role in the rotation as a rookie, though his 30.3 percent conversion from beyond the arc as a freshman at Notre Dame doesn't inspire a ton of confidence. He will contend with fellow draftee Malaki Branham and second-year guard Joshua Primo to see backcourt minutes behind Tre Jones and Devin Vassell.

Gets veteran shoutout
GSan Antonio Spurs
October 1, 2024
Wesley was praised by offseason addition Harrison Barnes on Monday, with Barnes noting that Wesley "has done an unbelievable job picking up guys full court, getting active, getting steals...he's had a great two weeks," Josh Paredes of Fansided reports.
ANALYSIS Entering his third season, Wesley's impressing on the defensive end is notable as he looks to carve out a rotation role for San Antonio. The 25th overall pick in the 2022 Draft ascended to 14.4 minutes per game across 61 regular-season appearances last year, spending the entire year with San Antonio as opposed to being designated to the G League -- where he averaged 20.9 points per game across 11 contests as a rookie. With Devin Vassell out through the beginning of November after undergoing a second foot surgery in the offseason, there is an early season void that Wesley is a candidate to step into. However, Chris Paul and touted rookie Stephon Castle -- who suffered a minor wrist injury at Summer League -- represent an injection of new competition.
