2024 Fantasy Outlook
Sengun took a huge leap forward in Year 3, posting career highs in points (21.1), rebounds (9.3), assists (5.0), steals (1.2) and minutes (32.5) per game. The big man was efficient from the field (53.7 percent) but struggled from the line (69.3) and beyond the arc (29.7). Sengun's breakout season came to a halt and was ultimately ended by a severe right ankle sprain in mid-March, though he had a chance to return if Houston snuck into the playoffs. He should be fully healthy by training camp and retain a starting role in 2024-25, but he may not be the Rockets' offensive hub anymore. Jalen Green was fantastic in Sengun's absence at the end of 2023-24, No. 3 pick Reed Sheppard could carve out a large role as a rookie, and Houston is still expecting developmental jumps from Jabari Smith, Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore. With so many mouths to feed and a faster-paced attack expected, Sengun's production could take a hit, especially coming off an injury. However, Sengun, who's still only 22 years old, established himself as an All-Star caliber player last year and should get the benefit of the doubt in Year 4, making him a quality fantasy starter. Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Alperen Sengun was born in July of 2002 in Giresun, Turkey. As a child, Sengun was torn between focusing on professional basketball or swimming. From 2012 to 2014, Sengun played ball with the youth teams of the sports club of Giresun University. After being discovered at youth sports festival, Sengun was invited to join a youth team of the Turkish club Bandırma, known then as Banvit. At age 12, he signed a youth contract with Banvit and played in their system through 2019. In the 2018-19 season, Sengun led Banvit to the Turkish Basketball Junior League championship and earned MVP honors. That same season he also played in 29 games for Bandırma Kırmızı of the second division Turkish First League (TBL). For 2019-20, Sengun joined the first division Turkish Super League (BSL) club Teksut Bandirma, with whom he averaged 6.3 points and 4.0 rebounds over 14.5 minutes per game. In the summer of 2020, Sengun signed a three-year contract with the Turkish club Besiktas. That year he posted 19.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.7 blocks across 29 regular-season BSL games and earned MVP honors. Upon winning the MVP award, Sengun announced he was entering the 2021 NBA Draft. On draft night, the Houston Rockets, after a trade with the OKC Thunder, selected Sengun with the 16th overall pick.

December 18, 2024
Sengun is questionable for Thursday's game against the Pelicans due to left knee soreness, Ben DuBose of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Sengun has been dealing with lingering soreness in his left knee, but he's yet to miss a game this season. The 26-year-old center is averaging 18.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 2.2 combined steals-plus-blocks across 31.0 minutes per game in the regular season. If he can't play, Steven Adams (ankle) and Jock Landale would see expanded roles.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2022
2021
Despite continued frustration in terms of playing time, Sengun ended his sophomore season as the 83rd-ranked player in standard formats, compiling averages of 14.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.8 combined steals and blocks. He recorded two triple-doubles during the 2022-23 season, flashing his ability to play as a facilitator from the center position. While it is a small sample size, over the final two weeks of the season, Sengun averaged 15.8 points, 14.2 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.4 blocks. His ability to fill the box score is reminiscent of players such as Nikola Jokic and Domantas Sabonis, who are elite fantasy assets across all formats. We are far from putting Sengun in the same category as Jokic and Sabonis, but it makes for an intriguing comparison. With a new head coach, the hope is that Sengun's minutes will finally reflect his ability on the basketball court. He is by no means a positive defender, but to this point, he has demonstrated an ability to accumulate defensive numbers. A few questions remain regarding how he is viewed in Houston, given they were rumored to have been in the market for Brook Lopez. This uncertainty could make Sengun available at a slight discount come draft season. Snapping him up in the sixth round feels like a relatively risk-free move.
The rebuilding Rockets selected Sengun with the 16th pick in the 2021 draft, slotting him into their frontcourt that also contained Christian Wood. Wood's presence certainly impacted Sengun during his rookie season, limiting him to 21 minutes per game. Despite relatively limited run, he still averaged 9.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.9 blocks and 0.4 three-pointers per game. Across the six games he logged at least 30 minutes, he provided 14.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.0 blocks. With plenty of potential in Sengun, and the team going nowhere fast, the Rockets dealt Wood to the Mavericks this offseason, which should open up the starting center job for Sengun. A young, exciting core is starting to take shape between Sengun, Jalen Green and Jabari Smith. With Sengun likely to play around 30 minutes per game in his new role, he can provide enough production across the board to be extremely valuable. He'll likely be a trendy pick to have a breakout season, so he could be long gone by the time the middle rounds roll around.
One of the most intriguing big men in the 2021 NBA Draft, Sengun landing with a rebuilding team puts him in an advantageous fantasy situation. While he'll take a backseat to Christian Wood and free agent signee Daniel Theis, Sengun's path to a consistent role is relatively clear. After averaging a double-double with 3.0 blocks per game in Summer League, Sengun has built up some momentum, and he'll be a name worth monitoring as the Rockets' rotation takes shape early in the season. Sengun, who turned 19 just days before the Draft, averaged 18.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.3 steals in 37 games for Turkish club Besiktas last season. If he's able to secure a decent workload as a rookie, Sengun could be worth a speculative bench spot in standard leagues.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Unlikely to be moved
CHouston Rockets
December 3, 2024
Despite having admirers around the NBA, Sengun is unlikely to be moved ahead of the trade deadline, Michael Scotto of Hoopshype reports.
ANALYSIS
It's no surprise that the Rockets want to keep their young center around, especially after inking him to a five-year, $185 million extension. Recent reports suggested that Houston wasn't interested in making a push to trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo or Kevin Durant, as they'd likely have to part with Sengun in those scenarios. The fourth-year center is in the midst of another standout regular season, posting averages of 18.8 points, 10.9 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.2 blocks, 1.1 steals and 0.4 three-pointers.
