2026 Fantasy Outlook
Cole made his big-league debut Sept. 12 -- a month after turning 25 -- and made waves with two home runs and a .533 OBP over his first four games. His ever-present strikeout issues caught up to him, with Cole hitting .176 with a 40.5 percent strikeout rate over his final 37 plate appearances. Even amid that rough stretch, Cole hit another two homers with three steals, so it seems he'll be a source of power and speed when he plays. A great overall athlete, Cole consistently logged isolated slugging marks over .200 and strikeout rates over 30 percent along his march to the majors. He was never a highly regarded prospect due to his age and 30-grade hit tool, and it's to be determined if he'll make enough contact to occupy the strong side of a platoon. He slashed .279/.377/.539 with 19 home runs and 18 steals in 97 games at Triple-A last season, but his .418 BABIP, 35.1 percent strikeout rate and the fact he was old for the level made it less impressive. Similarly to org. mate Brice Matthews, Cole makes solid swing decisions, he just whiffs a lot. The lefty-hitting outfielder will get a shot this spring to carve out a starting role against right-handed pitching. Read Past Outlooks
Dispatched back to Triple-A
The Astros optioned Cole to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday.
Analysis
Cole had started only three of the past seven games, and he's sported an untenable 39.6 percent strikeout rate in 18 games with the Astros this season. He's clearing off the active roster to make room for the return of Taylor Trammell (groin).

Shines during 2025 season
Cole was a breakout prospect in the Astros organization during the 2025 season, according to Jonathan Mayo, Jim Callis and Sam Dykstra of MLB.com.
Analysis
Cole was drafted in the 10th round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Ball State and always had excellent tools, but he struggled to stay healthy. He was able to get everything together in 2025 and slashed .279/.377/.539 with 19 homers and 18 steals in 97 games between Double-A and Triple-A. That earned him a promotion to the majors, and he went deep on the first big-league pitch he saw with the Astros. Cole was one of the biggest success stories in the Astros organization in 2025 after the big-league team missed the playoffs.
