2026 Fantasy Outlook
Gallen won double-digit games for a fourth consecutive season, winning 13 of his 33 starts. That is, however, where the good news ends. Gallen took a loss in 15 of the other 18 starts thanks to a career-worst 4.83 ERA fueled by a career-worst home run rate. Gallen surrendered 31 homers on the season, nearly as many as he had over the previous two seasons combined, with 20 of those homers coming off his two primary pitches. Gallen's four-seamer outcomes peaked in 2022, but 2025 was the first time he has allowed so many home runs off the pitch, and that gopheritis led to his issue of stranding runners with his LOB coming in 10 percentage points below his career average. Gallen worked on expanding his repertoire in 2025 by bring back more cutters and sinkers than he threw in 2024, but neither pitch was effective. Perhaps the path forward for a rebound for Gallen would be for him to simplify his offerings, focus on what he does best and throw away his 2025 struggles as he enters his quantity years, as his quality years appear to be a thing of the past. The fact he re-signed with Arizona isn't particularly surprising, so Gallen will have familiar surroundings in 2026. Read Past Outlooks

Gallen (0-1) took the loss against the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two batters over four-plus innings.
Analysis
Gallen looked strong through four frames, holding Los Angeles scoreless while allowing just two baserunners. However, things unraveled for him in the fifth, as he gave up a pair of singles followed by an Andy Pages homer to squander a 2-0 lead. Gallen remained in the game after the long ball, but he gave up another single followed by a walk and was subsequently pulled. Overall, he threw 47 of 76 pitches for strikes and got nine whiffs. It's an underwhelming start to the season for Gallen, who posted a career-worst 4.83 ERA in 33 starts last year.

2020
Gallen turned in another solid but not ace-level season. His career 26.6 percent strikeout rate is very good, but not elite. Last year, it was a career low of 25.1 percent. After two years of declining walk rates, Gallen's 8.7 percent clip was a smidge worse than average. Yielding only 13 homers in 148 frames kept Gallen's ERA in check, but if the 2025 baseball is livelier than the 2024 version, Gallen's ratios could suffer, unless he returns to a lower walk rate. Gallen's velocity was in sync with past seasons, so it's a matter of throwing more strikes. In 2023, 64.5 percent of his pitches were strikes, compared to only 61.9 percent last season. There was a time when Gallen fanned 28 percent of batters and was a back end SP1. He's now a solid SP3, with SP2 upside if he can throw more pitches in the zone.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could land with Cubs
The Cubs could be the favorites to sign Gallen, Bruce Levine of the Marquee Sports Network reports.
Analysis
A rival general manager indicated Thursday that they viewed the Cubs as the most likely landing spot for the free-agent hurler. Chicago has been connected to Gallen throughout the offseason, and it seems they could still sign the right-hander even after trading for Edward Cabrera. The Diamondbacks also have interest in bringing Gallen back, but John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM says there's nothing imminent on that front.
