2026 Fantasy Outlook
Scott won the Cardinals' Opening Day center fielder job, played premium defense and ranked in the top 10 in baseball with his 34 stolen bases. Unfortunately, the speedster showed very little progression from an offensive standpoint. Scott's .601 OPS ranked 175 out of 177 players to accrue at least 450 plate appearances, and he was dead last in that group with a lowly .296 slugging percentage. He's been particularly feeble against non-fastballs, with a .247 xwOBA versus breaking pitches and a .217 wOBA against offspeed offerings. Scott will be entering his age-25 season in 2026 and, between his excellent defense and the Cardinals going through a rebuild, should have some leash on an everyday job. However, we haven't seen anything to this point to suggest he could become anything more than a one-category specialist. Read Past Outlooks
Yet to get on track
Scott has a .161/.317/.226 slash line with one double and five stolen bases through 42 plate appearances in Grapefruit League action.
Analysis
The 25-year-old reworked his swing during the offseason and entered spring training looking to bunt for base hits more often, but he's racked up just five total bases through 13 Grapefruit League games. Scott will provide strong defense in center field, but his bat will likely need to come to life at some point in 2026 to retain the starting job. He played in 138 games last year and posted a .216/.305/.296 slash line with five homers and 34 steals.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
A rash of outfield injuries forced Scott onto the Cardinals' Opening Day roster last year, but he was sent down to Triple-A Memphis after looking overmatched for a few weeks. The 24-year-old continued to struggle while at Memphis until a swing change around midseason allowed Scott to tap into a little pop and earn a trip back to St. Louis. Scott hit five homers and four doubles during a 23-game stretch from late July to late August but was eventually sent down again after Michael Siani got healthy. It's Siani who represents Scott's biggest roadblock to playing time in 2025. Scott has far more upside of the two and has the potential to be a fantasy difference maker with his speed, but a lack of polish offensively and defensively could mean more time in the minors for Scott initially.
