2026 Fantasy Outlook
Burke turned heads with how well he pitched for the White Sox in September 2024, and he wound up being named the team's Opening Day starter in 2025. He held the Angels scoreless over six frames that day, but it was mostly a bumpy ride after that for the right-hander. Home runs (23 in 134.1 innings) and control (10.6 percent walk rate) were issues for Burke, and he had problems with both in the minors, too. Burke did strike out 53 in 37.1 innings after the All-Star break, but he also walked 20 and spent time back in the minors during that stretch. Being able to avoid the injured list and log 147 innings was encouraging for Burke after he had shoulder issues the previous two seasons. Burke is an intriguing project for new pitching coach Zach Bove, but the righty's supporting cast was among the league's worst on defense and offense in 2024. Read Past Outlooks
Dominates Yankees in long-relief
Burke (4-4) earned the win Thursday against the Yankees, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out eight over 7.1 innings.
Analysis
After opener Bryan Hudson tossed 1.2 scoreless innings, Burke carried the bulk of the workload and finished the game, with the lone blemish on his line coming via a Ryan McMahon solo homer in the third inning. The right-hander was dominant Thursday, generating a whopping 20 whiffs and an elite 39.2 percent whiff rate. His eight strikeouts matched a season high and were especially encouraging given his recent inconsistency, as he entered Thursday with a 5.82 ERA over his previous seven appearances. Burke now owns a 3.89 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 81:29 K:BB across 81 innings this season and is scheduled to face Cleveland at home in his next outing.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Burke had been ranked briefly as a top 400 prospect in May 2022 and January 2023, but he never generated much buzz and made his big-league debut late in 2024 without much fanfare after logging a 4.62 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 16 starts at Triple-A as a 24-year-old. He excelled over four big-league appearances in September, including a six-inning, eight-strikeout outing against San Diego that featured strikeouts of Fernando Tatis, Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill. Burke cut his walk rate from 13 percent at Triple-A to 9.2 percent in the majors while keeping his strikeout rate north of 28 percent at both stops. Burke's 19.7 K-BB% would have ranked 15th in the majors among qualified starters, in between George Kirby and Michael King, and while his small sample lessens the weight of his performance, it was undoubtedly an excellent first four big-league outings. Keeping his walk rate under 10 percent will be important for him to have consistent success in his first full year in the big-league rotation, but his mid-90s fastball is a clear plus pitch (111 Stuff+), and he has a deep four-pitch mix. A shoulder injury limited Burke to 36.2 innings in 2023, and he didn't make his 2024 Triple-A debut until June, also due to a shoulder injury. He built up to 90.2 innings and should be able to go well past 120 innings this year with reasonable health, although back-to-back seasons with shoulder trouble should be factored into his innings projection.
